You only need one vin on the car - the one on the dashboard.... Why on earth the vin tag was riveted to the dash pad is beyond me. So much angst is caused when restoring one. Another real good point. How do you replace and restore an ebody dash pad without removing and reinstalling the vin tag. Now once it is removed how do you ever know it was originally on the car? But places like just dashes does them all the time and there is no talk about it. I think the rules are all over the place. A vehicle is legally defined by it's paperwork, nothing more, nothing less, if you own the tags and title, your free to replace any and all components including a replacement body Circled in red are the only "original" components of the GYC/AMD Cuda left for "restoration" Holy Moly, that 'cuda is a product placement gold mine!

Glad they could save it! The spirit of the car is alive . Pretty well documented what was done. In this world today there are far bigger worries to go around. Enjoy life and the carsfor what each one is or what you percieve. Who is going to care in another 50-100 years.

It brings me back in time when I grew up with these cars and we raced them down the parking lot of a local beach in the summer. Try to do that today??lol... We had the lot marked off for 1/4 mile and everyone would show up on the weekend nights and back into a spot, turn on the radio, sit on the front fender and watch the cars go by. I can tell you that the Mopars brought the most attention but there were some Chevies to be reckoned with, like the 396SS cars.

to northeastmopar: whats your point? The point of this website is for the restoration and perseveration of the hobby we all enjoy. I'm not really happy about defending GYC, but they have done nothing wrong, except maybe having a goof in the lead role of the show but that's entertainment I guess. in the process of entertainment they also step into some historical information as well as giving the novice such as yourself some idea of how to repair your vehicle if you don't have the knowledge. (which I devise by reading your post). Its my guess by your standards is that nothing should be repaired or it loses its name. I guess if the car doesn't have it's original motor it should be discarded. restoration is about preservation not the value of your car, but many have forgotten that. Money definitely has presence in this hobby that has now become an industry. Its the desire of preservation that has pumped life into this industry and the challenge's it brings. You have asked a lot of questions about vin #'s and their stampings, how would like it if GYC or any body would accuse you of trying to obtain information to make a blueprint on how to forge a car? unfortunately no matter what man makes for his enjoyment there will always be a criminal element trying to take a short cut to cash in on the rising value, such as art or even muscle cars. but that is no reason to try and place a black cloud over someone elses head. a good peace of of advise was given to me along time ago "Never try to make yourself look good by making someone else look bad" it doesn't last long and usually you will end up with that cloud over your head. be part of the solution not the problem That is my point exactly. Thank You. Seems as though there are a lot of differing opinions on this subject. I was just using their car to make my point. And you are 100% correct, I don't think anybody should be trying to make themselves look better than anyone else on here. You point is one a share with you. As I really don't care what my car is worth to be honest. Unfortunately, some folks think because you ask a question, you are crooked. lol

bottom line. its a vin swap on new panels but IF a "resto shop" does it its a restored car. (example sulivan's purple hemi cuda from BC that was just a cowl sitting on the indian reserve) if a back yarder does it its a rebody. Confused again???? Are you saying if a resto shop adds tags or stampings that were not part of the car, that is ok, such as the case of this purple hemi cuda? But if a backyard mechanic does it to the same car it is wrong??? I don't get that at all. We went from the car to the person doing the car?? Strange....

Out of curiosity, what does a "new" Cuda body cost? While there's no complete "body" yet for the Cuda, there's enough to make 80-90% of the Cuda replaceable, price would vary based on year 70,71, 72-4, hood option, valance option/year, but you could spend $12-15K+ buying all the sheetmetal, brackets, frame members, glass, chrome trim, and all the assorted components AMD offers, the list of goodies just keeps growing

What do you all think this car is going and for what price when done? Trying to read between the lines of your grammar..? Probably less than it will cost to restore it. Especially with a non numbers drive train and no fender tag or sheet.

Currently Im in the process of my T/A 4spd car. Its a number matching car, with original sheet metal and and broadcast sheet. Luckily, I only have to replace a trunk floor. I have to get a new dash pad like most everyone, and what i ended up doing for the dash vin was to take very good photos of it, fender tag, door tag, and broadcast sheet. I was then able to prove ownership with title and photos and I was able to buy the Rosette rivets to replace it with.
As far as swapping out vin stamped panels, I feel that if you take the same photos, and take photos of the old panel in the car then take photos of the new panel, it would still hold its authenticity. Documentation is everything on a car. if you have the proper photos, proper documents, receipt for new panel, why would there be a problem? Also, if you decide to sell, the proper thing to do is inform the purchaser of the changes and show the documentation to back it.
If I were to buy a high end, rare car, and I noticed vins were tampered or not there, I would ask for the supporting documentation. if no documentation could be obtained, I walk away, unless I was getting a good deal, and was planning on a driver car.
Just my thoughts
