So far the best;

Chambered mufflers I have run are the Hooker Aero Chambers. *I think* there the best flowing chambered muffler.

Turbo mufflers are Dyno Max units. Quite & high flowing

Straight through mufflers would be ether the Hooker or Dyno Max / Max/Ultra flow.

These have been the best ones I have had in there design. And because each is a different design, they sound a bit different from each other.

I started out with 2-1/2" and "reproduction" HEMI mufflers, way too quiet! People used to ask, "does it really have a HEMI?"
Well of course it did, 540" 10.78 compression with solid roller!

Then I went with 2-1/2" LONG Dynomax UltraFlows. Better, but still to quiet.

When I installed the Gear Vendor I had to replace the exhaust that was in the way. I went to TTI 3" with SHORT Dynomax UltraFlows. Now it sounds just right! There is no question that it makes power from the idle sound!

Cruising is pleasant and mellow, add throttle and it flat out "talks to you"!

Didn't somebody do a test awhile back and they were slipping on muffs and some restrictive ones wouldn't stay on the pipe the pressure blew them off. That being said I had the ultraflows and they rotted inside. I replaced them with flomaster super 44s and saw no diff in st.

Below is the decibel chart that you will find on the internet. I referenced this when choosing my Hooker Max Flows. They are deep and mellow at idle but WOT is LOUD! I love the sound of these with an x-pipe and CCE resonators beside the tank. thumbs

Note: The Max Flows are tied for quietest at idle and tied for loudest at WOT.

I tested my exhaust with a DB meter.. checked
it at idle and 1500rpm.. with just the Dynomax
muff it was 90db and 96db.. with the resonator
and the Dynomax(res was before the muff) it was
86db and 93db with a much better note
EDIT
all readings from 3' away at the back of the car
at work we did our noise readings from the side
of the car 3' away.. we did drive by test also..
at different rpm and a WOT reading for the drive
by

Here's a couple vids I did a few years back when my 408 was still alive. 3" muffs and x over.
I didn't know this at the time but Flowmaster told me you do not run crossover/scavenger pipes with scavengers muffs as they both perform the same job.
super 44's do sound nice without being annoying IMO.

I have no clue.. when I hired in the hemi was
on its way out.. yeah it was still in production
but any work was already done on it.. and yours
being blown would be different anyways.. I dont
even recall the flow on the SB stuff which was
all that was in productions then(not counting the
4 bangers)... any of the dyno operators that measure
input air flow could tell you
EDIT
yes the exhaust flow is greater than intake air
but there is a formula to figure the expansion
of the air at different temps to figure out the
output flow

I run 3 inch and Summits stainlees mufflers.They sound great not too loud but little restriction.Why people pay big $$$ for a name brand is beyond me.A few members here also ruin them and love them.Rocky

I ran them also.. a bit loud for me.. but I
didnt know who makes them for Summit so I tried
them.. thats the reason I put the electric dumps
on the Rampage.. I would rather run a bit more
restricted muffs to get it quiet then open the
dumps for racing.. I never planned on pulling the
exhaust on it so the dumps were my other option..
I'm still not happy with the sound and I will likely
move to another set of muffs

I've always enjoyed playing around with mufflers, I've had quite a few different exhaust systems over the years but I don't have very many videos.

Here's one of my '69 Dart with 3.5" Pypes Race-Pro mufflers, no crossover pipe and no tailpipes. It was loud on the street, but didn't slow the car down at all compared to open headers.

My favorite exhaust was on my DartSport, it was a 3.5" X-pipe with Magnaflow race mufflers and turnouts to the side of the car. Fairly quiet on the street and sounded like high RPM when I hammered it. This car ended up going 9.80's through the exhaust footbraking and the exhaust didn't slow the car down one bit compared to open headers, it actually helped since it was a hundredth quicker and the system easily weighed 75 pounds.

My current 500" street Duster has an H-pipe, 3" system, Super turbo mufflers, and 2.5" tailpipes. It's almost too quiet, I'm gonna try some cheap stainless Jones straight-through mufflers soon. I do have electric cutouts on it though.
I tried Borla XS street mufflers on this car and they weren't much quieter than open headers.

By the way, I also tried Summit 3" turbo mufflers when I first got this car running 2 years ago and the cases blew apart after only 2 months. Summit gave me my money back and said they've had a lot of those returned damaged.
