Anyone running Ried case & bell th400 behind small block mopar or gen3 hemi? What all is involved in this? Lookin for options for my drag week build. Was thinking a 727 with a gear vendor with the short adapter but want to keep an open mind. Like the idea of no external shields with the aftermarket case and you just cant do that with a 727. Whats out there?

The Gearvendor setup for a th400 has a nice short 4 inch adapter vs the "Shortie" 8 inch one or the really long standard one for the 727's. Another reason I'm thinking 400. Would like to hear some $$ comparisons of what a good 400 setup would be for 900-1100 hp. Want to spend smart and once.

I would also say go turbo 400. I believe Josh King just ordered one for his duster with a gen 3 turbo.

Was kind of thinking it needs a 400 with a gearvendor for what I want to do with it, just have no experience in GM transmissions. Who are the players in the 400 world? Again don't want to spend promod money on 1000hp multi purpose car, just want best bang for the buck and reliability.

Tunnel and cross-member fab are already figured a given with the 400 idea. Waiting on motorplate & oil pan for driveline mock up, car goes to chassis guy in a week or two soon as he calls for cage and some other fab.

The Rossler stuff is living, and handling big horsepower. So everybody else is riding the coattails and claiming they have great turbo 400s. Drag Week eats stock case Turbo 400s for breakfast.

The availability of the SFI case and bell are big factors in my leaning this direction. Also value per $ of a aftermarket cased 400 vs tricked out 727 that still needs shields.

What does the Reid case cost? Not having to run shields is nice. My 727 in my old 69 Dart had a JW Ultrabell so I just had to run a small Lofgren blanket over the case so it wasn't too much of a pain at all.

Case is about 1600 from Summit and the bell is about 350 or so. Looking at trany builders that do whole package

I have a new Reid sbm/gen3 bell housing. I have a shop who is a Reid dealer doing transmissions for my R5 customers. He did an all out t400Reid for $5,500. It was over built but what customer wanted.
I'd be happy to sell you a complete transmission. Or this bellhousing I have.
