I also say use the lockup. Since you aren't making it too wild of a motor, it will work fine. Just as a point of reference for you, we have a 92 Dodge B250 van with a 518 in it. It has a lockup convertor. Moparts member Snailpower had a 518 in a 70 Coronet, and did a nice job cutting his crossmember to get it to fit. I don't know if his pics are still in the archives or not. Yes...And you need to increase the trans cooler line size to 3/8ths...

A 518 is what, 3 or 4 inches longer than a 727?

Everything I've seen says the driveshaft needs to be 3.5" shorter. So your guess is pretty close

So does the floor hump need to be modified in my 70 cuda for a 518 tranny? And where can I get the tranny crossmember or diagram of one?
