what did you use EXIT1965? since your in the US you could clear up this issue?
I used the standard rustoleum enamel found at walmart, home depot etc. This is the stuff:
I did notice the walmart I went to had different looking cans with different copyright dates on them, and some said "almond" and some said "almond gloss" but both were code 7770. I think they were the same, just different packaging but I went with the stuff with the newest date (2003 I think) that said "almond gloss".

i think i added a tad too much mineral spirits, but it wasnt as thin as water. I mixed it in a cup, so i would splash the side of the cup, and see how it ran down. I definently used more than 20:80 I got some bubbles too, i found if you blew on them, they went away, and would level out somewhat. It went right over bonbo. what do you think. This picture is RIGHt after i put the paint on. i figure the bubbles will come out when i wet sand.

This has all been very interesting. This is a paint job that I did on the race car and was called a lier about it being a spray bomb paint job. It is all metalic truck colors by Duplicolor. They have the spray bomb with the fan spray. This only lasted for 4 years though and took about 12 cans of paint.
nice job , i actually know the "fan" spray can nozzle your talking about, they are really nice, and spray amazing. i used the duplicolor engine enamel paint on the engine tin on both my beetles, comes out like glass, and those nozzles spray really really nice.

Easy 69Charger don't let that fella spoil your night. 99.9% of us posting here support your idea including me, going to try it as soon as this winter weather breaks. We all know as well that most body shops (not all) here someone say classic car and they start rubbing there hands together and break out the calculator and start adding up the $$,$$$,$$$,$$$ Bill. But hey if someone is a millionare and has the cash to lay down for a 1,000 hour restoration more power to them but I have to just save my pennies basically to get my muscle on the road so I'll save a buck when I can and still have something to be proud to have in my driveway: Jay
thanks dude, honestly i just don't know what possesses people to just come on a thread and pick a fight. i'm just trying to share what i've done, hoping to help out fellow people in the hobby, and then guys like that come in and just want to piss on you cause they have had a awesome revelation and ate Kentucky Fried Chicken with God and are convinced that it will never work, and i'm personally attacking people. i guess it's expected with a thread like this where there are so many views, but it still gets to me. it's like when you go to a bar, there's allways one drunk guy that just wants to fight just cause your there.
as for waiting for the spring, i painted the 74 orange beetle in the pics in the dead of winter january freeze up here in canada, if you have a garage, a space heater, and some of those 1500W $10 flood lights, you'll be very confortable and have a bit of a tan .

I don't feel that this method of DIY painting was put in to degrade body shop paint jobs at all. It was started and has progressed into a very informative alternative for those of us whose money tree hasn't taken root and cannot afford to pay bodyshop rates. Even an alternative for those of us, like myself taht can buy wholesale paint and has a friend that is a professional body man that can help me out for cheap. Not all require that show car don't touch unless you are naked, afraid to drive it may get chipped paint. We want to be able to drive and enjoy it not drive it and worry about it.
