Mine runs a single line Indy with tall rotor iron replacement pump. At 300 passes the motor was freshened. It sees 7100 every pass. I had broken some valve springs and the debris went thru the pump. The rotors and cover were chewed bad. The rotors were replaced, the Indy cover milled. Even messed up it had 65 psi@7000. I also found the relief spring was broken in half. No other issues were caused by any debris in the motor as it was trapped in the filter. Now with new rotors and a spring it holds 65psi@1500, 80@7000. And to get it that low one coil was removed from the relief spring. It runs 5w30 with .004"main,.003" rod, .0025 lifter clearances. Doug Doug, That is the exact set-up I currently have. Something went thru the pump because the rotors were chewed up and the pump housing is grooved pretty bad. Still carried decent oil pressure. Looking for the best fix to this problem. Sounds like I can get away with just replacing the pump. The Indy cover does not have much damage/wear.....seems to mostly be contained to the housing and rotors. The covers are easy to mill. We only trim where it bolts to the pump and stop short of where the inlet screws in as it is pretty thin already. Doug

I bought the Milidon pump and use the stock cover with a Jomar 100% no bypass filter. The rotors are more pointed than the rounded clover shape of the stock pumps resulting in using less power to spin them.
Earlier this year, I lost some rocker arm bearings on my exhaust rockers as a result of my valve spring pressures slowly going away and valve float harmonics beating up the related parts.
Once I get the motor apart, I'll report on how the pump and gears held up to any contamination. I'm hoping the Jomar filter kept it all out of the pressure side of the motor.

I'm pretty sure the oil flows through the pressure side before it goes into the filter !!! I think when he says pressure side he is talking after the filter, but you are correct in thinking that the oil is pressurized before the filter, unfiltered oil travels thru the oil pump first and then to the filter.
running up my post count some more .

The Jomars are great but are just Baldins Herb Mccandless was telling us to use Baldwins decades ago--smart ones listened You see a helicopter or something that cost $$$$$$$ and it will come factory with a Baldwin filter on it usually

Ya, I re-read his post and see what he means. Not concerned so much about the pump as he is about the motor.

I put a Milodon dual line system on a 446 for a S/G car in 1990. The system I used had the milodon pump cover and sandwich plate with a Melling HV pump in between. Back then, there was no green gasket for the filter adapter...... It had recsssed grooves and o-rings. That system got transferred to several subsequent motors and is still in use today on an Indy headed 542.

When dinoing my motor at wescotts we put one of his pumps on my motor and it was worth 4 hp. His gears in that pump where copies of a Chevy pump. I thought it was some what of a copy of a jeff Johnson pump witch uses Chevy gears. Charlie tried one of his and decided to do his own. It was a great pump and cheaper than the Johnson

Run a filter in the line right out of the pan ,got the idea from al (Hemitis)an inexpensive earls from summit They call it a pre filter, but it's a screen and the canister unscrews for inspection. I have one on both pick up lines. Jimi Vignogna instructed me to install a pair after a lifter failure and the entire oiling system got contaminated.
HEMI-ITIS has no cure. My condition is fully BLOWN!!
