Hello,

It's that new line up at an angle to compensate for the peg legg'er technique.

What really sucks is that he won the round. Val Torres in the other lane red lit.

is gonna be pissed off(both the driver and the track)

Actually ,no one won as this was during qualifying, but it if was an elimination run he would have lost as crossing the center line or going out of bounds is a worst offense than the red lt.

Well, not quite. Can't win a time trial, can't win crossing the centerline either.

That happened to a good friend of mine at PRP in a front engine dragster. He always late arriving at the track and was rushing to make a time trial and left the overflow line out of the catch can. One tire wet one tire dry. Very bad combo. After that his nickname at the track was TREECLIMBER.

Truck broke an axle at the hit. Could have been much worse if happened down track.

Could have been much worse where it was anyway...

Goes to show how things can go very wrong even on a 12 second ride.

I broke wheel studs on the line once, slick/wheel came off and bent the quarter panel up, I didn`t get airborne though. I was more upset about the bent quarter luckily a body man who races came up and said "don`t worry I can fix it" He did and thats why my one quarter is a slghtly different shade of gold. That truck hooks hard theres a picture of it from a week or so ago on DRC in Vegas with the wheels off the ground.

Isn't that about where Rich Christiansen stands to do his arm drops on Pinks? He may want to rethink that.

After seeing what can happen in these photos, maybe it's time to start adding wheel studs to the list of regular 'maintenance' items.

Bryon,

That unlucky driver is "GTX" John Irving out of
Boulder NV, he just bought the truck a couple
of weeks ago. His boys are both still entered
at Pomona with a Volare S/W and 73 Satellite.

Hate? No, not at all. My beef with the show is twofold. ONE--the human christmas tree. Its dumb and horribly inaccurate. Needs to be removed, and this thread just revealed a method of getting the job done , TWO, the lack of no posted times! Why not? We would like to know how fast the cars really are, and sandbagging would become far more difficult to keep concealed.

Ya, but I`d do Anna. I guess the point of arm dropping is to keep it old school/grass roots based but, I too would like to actually know how fast/slow some of these car really are. By the way, I`m not a fan of Rich it`s just that it`s REAL easy to sit back and bag on people and I try to practice(and it`s not always easy)being nice when possible.

LOL...LOL!! I have no love for John what so ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

NOW, that is really funny. John's attitude towards people is down right dog crap at BEST!
I do not like people that believe they are ABOVE others simply because he was handed wealth.
Oh, and he can afford to buy a new tree, and probably anything else NHRA wanted him to.

Nobody said you have to like John Irving, I've
known him for at least 35 yrs since his days as
a bail bondsman in whittier catering to the street racers.

And I know to leave my wallet at home if I do
any business with him, but nobody likes to see
a race car/truck get hurt like that.

Didn't say I liked to see anything get hurt....I'm sure he is fine.
If you've ever dealt with him, then you know exactly from where I speak. This guys will tell you he's better than you and walk away without a care in the world.
He also likes to stretch the truth...ALOT!
I don't care for people like that, and I'm allowed to say it
As for the truck, well it's not like he can't afford to fix it. And the tree for that matter.
I will say, even though I don't care for John, he is a great dad from what I've seen, and takes care of his boys. Gives them whatever they want.
My dealings with him have been very bad, and I hate to see anyone else get swindled from him. He's a sneeky one that's for sure.

I was just Pointing out that she had, just in case you didnt know. But, you stated you did know. So that was my point

And whats this about you just being nice. I didnt know you had it in you. I always thought you were a hardcore redneck.

IMO, most "sheard wheel studs" are due to the nuts not being tight. Just my 2-cents.

Everyone do themselves a favor and check all your lug nuts each day of racing. Just like checking oil, water, trans fluid, belts, etc.

He did not break the axel sheard wheel studs. can see the axel flange still in housing in the 5th pic.

IMO, most "sheard wheel studs" are due to the nuts not being tight. Just my 2-cents.

Everyone do themselves a favor and check all your lug nuts each day of racing. Just like checking oil, water, trans fluid, belts, etc.

I remember sheering 2 lugs off my sisters Slant 6 Dart because the lug nuts came loose. It didnt take much with the slant 6, a high HP/torque engine can take out all 5 in a heartbeat if the lug bolts have worked themselves loose. mike

It`s all good...........Actually, I`m a hardcore italian which is a LONG way from a redneck but whatever. My original point was about The assnine point about Rich being where the tree was which is rude and obnoxious. I don`t wish harm on anyone(anymore) unless you cross me or hurt those I care about which I`m sure the more mature sensible on here can relate to. Nothing more nothing less.......and as far as the truck, bummer musta had a ford 9" in it.

Hey, I've always just thought it seemed kinda dangerous for Rich Christiansen to be standing where he stands when he does his show. The photo of the truck taking out the tree bears my thoughts out. I don't wish the guy any harm or ill will. If that's an "assnine ? point", or rude an obnoxious to you, then so be it. Oh well.

I learnt a lesson ,the axles came out and went to Mark Williams and had 5/8 studs put in and I check the nuts with a torque wrench every race day.
