Wow............what a basket of worms.........

I should have mentioned that I don't think this is an original balancer because it's marked in 2 degree increments like most aftermarket ones.........

It was real common for racers to add degree grooves to original balancers. So, what you have is a modified original.

The Ebay ad for the 059 alt pulley is the correct one. Sure is strange that he's the only one whos ever got them for sale. Buy that pulley along with a repro water and crank pulley (I'd suggest Hoover's) and you'll be done straightening out that car.

So, you're sure that I have an original balancer? I guess I'd have to for all of the early Hemi pulley's to line up???

I just bought that pulley on eBay........

Yeah, it looks that way, but the piece where you attach a puller to pull it off is on the front........

Yes, His PS pulley is mounted correctly.

Here is a pic of a 69-71 PS crank pulley on one of my Hemi motors.

You probably already know this, but it's worth stating. You will have to remove the alternators rear housing to safely press on the pulley.

Check out the alternator and make sure it is has the 2 field terminals on the back and that it is a round back alternator.

Check the part number stamped on the pad above the Batt connector stud.

I use the Harbor Freight "Power Steering Pump Puller Kit" and modify the end of the jack screw so it doesn't cut treads into the bore of the pulley. They go on sale all time for about $10.

There are plenty of 2875 711 alternator pulleys around, you just have to make a spacer to use it.

Do you know how thick that spacer needs to be , I have a number of original double pullies . Also is that pulley needed on the 68 down pulley arrangement ? I have a repop 69-71 water pump pulley , but a Fluidampner, so I can use std B/RB pullies instead of getting a hemi lower pulley and a spacer .

In Wayne's pics it looks like a single groove alt pulley will work , is that a special pulley ? My junk doesn't have to look correct , it just has to work .

Single groove alt. pulley for 68 and earlier.

with a thin damper use a real hemi pulley and the spacer.

Most of the right info has already been posted. This is a fully degreed factory "thick" style damper. Must be an old DC part, I have had it for about 20 years.. Wayne, drop me a line if you need me to check anything. I have a built street Hemi on the stand.

Thanks Mike........and MOPARTS,

So, what's the reasoning on the thick balancer?

I didn't realize they even offered that.........

Yes, late 68-71.

Comparison between Hemi (LH) and non Hemi (RH) alternator pulleys.

Did someone in the aftermarket have these back in the day, or was this always a chrysler part only?

Dan

Street Hemi's have always had the thick dampner , Why ??? I have no clue Chrysler put the thin ones on the crate motors , why again ??? maybe to use up parts laying around in inventory considering the mismatch of parts on my heads ???

64-5 Race hemi's had a thin damper.

It is safe to say that all street hemi's had a thick damper.

I think the 64, and maybe 65 had the thick damper also. The 64 race hemi service bullitin shows a clear pic of it.
