I was told that regular steel braid hose would collapse if used as a suction hose, what do you guys think?

What kind of system, how long and which type of stainless covered hose are you talking about?

The only way you might collapse it is drive over it with a truck. If you have that strong of a pump you might think about reinforcing your valve covers.

it's ok to butt heads, just don't do it with a butthead

A friend of mine has a B1 KB 572 with a KB oil pump, and KB told him to use this special suction hose, that I can't think of the name, but I did see the hose, and it has different hose fittings it looks like they are sweged and not reuseable. I really dont think that the steel braid part of the hose would collapse, but maybe the the non steel reenforced rubber hose inside would, I dont know just a thought.

If you kink or fold the SS hose you can cause seperation of the inside lining and it can collaspe blocking the passage under suction.Make all curves smooth and use proper fittings:90,45,22 degrees and straight.

Use the Aeroquip blue hose if you're worried about suction. Besides, the blue hose is a lot less expensive and is easier to assemble. I don't use much of the braided hose anymore since it is kind of a hassle to deal with.

i've used braided hose for the vac line on my brake booster for years, never seen it collapse, & my brakes work great.

I had a milodon hose on mine and after a few months it was soft, when it was cold, it must have been real soft after the oil was up to temp.
I still have that hose.
its not BS

There are a few diffrent grades of SS hose.We have seen new stuff that collaspes, usually if you have good pressure at idle and loose it as you increase rpm and regain it when you go back to idle rpm is a good indication that the liner is collasping. If you pull the hose and look through it you will the lumps in the liner, sort of looks like a hemmoroid in you rectal colon.

you got any pics of that so we know No,try bending over in front of a full length mirror and spread your butt. But seriously just take a scrap piece of SS hose fold it over a couple of times, you will feel and hear the lining seperate, then look through the hose and you will see what looks like lump in the lining.

The hose and fittings you were looking at were what
I believe just hydrolic lines and fittings, we swedge
those fitting (pretty stiff with high burst pressures)
