That looks fixable.

I ran a 6.31 with a 1.35 60ft on the previous pass....Car was really running awesome. Until I starved it for oil somehow.

Radiator still had what looked like all the water still in it. So we will see what the block looks like later this week.

Still kicking myself for missing the warning signs. But I got all out of my routine. They rushed us bad at the track due to threat of rain, I could not find the guy I was supposed to line up against, and then an [censored] in a pickup ran me off the pit road on purpose when driving to the lanes looking for this guy.

When I parked the car after being run off the road, I was in gear, but didn't know it. Found the j-ass I was supposed to race, and he was first in line and never waited or looked for me. I am all the way in the back, and couldn't get it re-started as the line lock cord blocks your view of the gear. For the first time in 20 years I had added a neutral lock out and was working. The fan I put in the car last week quit, and I was fighting with that as well.

Finally I get it started, and I am already late to the line. I wish I had not run. But in true racer fashion, we try to over come, and I get what I got.

Sorry for the long drawn out story, but I feel a little better talking about it.

Weird how they all go on 7 or 8 cylinder. That's where my block was windowed. Usually when it gets faster there's more hp from something that was using hp that's not anymore. (Oil pump) stock racers will drain all the oil but one quart, to set the record, destroying the engine. Go figure.

I'm not a block expert, but that doesn't look terrible. A couple of window fixes and you'll be up and running again, sort of...

Unless it really tore it up internally, that block definitely looks fixable. Not bad at all really. Doesn't look like it got into water at all.

So sorry to read this Randy. I cant imagine the disappointment of it all. After i get an engine in i cant imagine yanking it all back out without at least *some* enjoyment.
Any ideas as to the "Why" yet?

Yup....Oil pan is too small at 10 quarts. Its always been marginal. I thought we were going to get the accumulator to work, but that didn't pan out either.

So, if this is fixable, a new pan will be the key to making it live. Burned a few rod bearnings on Hemis before, and this is a classic case of not enough oil in the pan.

Keeping the oil pickup submerge in good oil is hard sometimes with drag cars, a crankshaft oil scraper helps, accumaltor plumbed(proper sizes) and fitted properly helps also. Oil drain back can be a problem so making sure that all the casting flashes are removed helps a tiny bit, making sure that the rockers and valve springs get enough oil to keep the roller cam springs cool can be tricky and still have enough oil in the pan when running also, I have ran more oil than the pan should have held to help prevent oil starvation devil Thin oil drains back faster than thick oil does work grin I run 5w20WT or 10W30 WT racing oil is the thickest oil I'll buy and use do to many reasons shruggy

10 quart pan is no way too small........UNLESS you are trapping all the oil in the top of the motor

Agree with Monte - Drag if ur running a 10 quart pan you have to be keeping oil up top for some reason ? I'm getting mine ready for a little action this summer and am running an 8.5quart pan with a swinging pickup so 'Ill be real interested in what happened with yours and why?

Out of curiosity, what oil and type of pickup are you using?

A 10 qt pan is MORE than enough for almost any combo I can think of short of a fuel or alky blower motor.
That appears to be a Indy block. Trapping oil in the top is a problem in the valley but is less likely on the hemis due to head drain back. Do you run a vacuum pump? What kind of lifters and are they bushed? There are some things that you need to look at on these blocks that are not all that hard to fix if you know where to look. Check the feed to the bearing coming in from the oil galley. NOT with a brush but a light and a scope if possible. Ask me how I know????
