I'm going to be running a Hughes solid cam in my next motor. Hughes has these lifters for a little more $$$, they oil through the lifter face onto the cam lobe. Anybody have experience with these? & what do you think?

good lifters and the EDM face is much added protection for solid cams. I'll be running them in both my motors this season

Guess that would give you the opertunity to get your push rods the right length.
Getting old just means you were smarter than some and luckier than others.

yes , but you'll see a question about rocker shims to make up the difference instead of getting the proper length pushrods

How big of a cam are we talking here Gary?
Regardless the added piece of mind would be nice, but people have been getting away without them for years. I guess it depends on your budget. I personally like to over build things.

Crower cool-face lifters are very nice, too.
Crower has the edm hole offset, which is supposed to distribute the oil over the lobe/lifter face better.
if the lifter is spinning!
Then, the hole will only be in the right spot on two occasions, needing multiple holes around it's periphery to be any more effective than a single hole in the center.

Bought a set from Scott Brown for my 528; am running dual springs with a mechanical cam. No problems with them...
I didn't say there was anything wrong with them. Just that the single offset oiling hole is no more effective than a centrally located one. EDM lifters are worth the $$.

Regardless where the hole is drilled, I can see that kind of lifter putting more oil on the cam and for what your trying to prevent....this is a good thing. I will say this.....16 lifters equals 16 oil leaks and that means a less oil pressure down stairs.
....there is nothing like driving my 1968 Hemi Dart around town and having people looking at you like you're nuts!!

Fererra is selling a lightweight lifter with the EDM hole and they are supposed to be correct hardness and very tight on the specs--have not priced them but look before you buy--I bet that is where they are all coming from anyway

I agree with both points, but as far as the oil leak the hole in the lifter face is only .012 so while it will make sure the cam is well lubed it won't be much of a loss of volume to the bottom end...

I here you Randy and you could very easily be correct. There are many variables here. Weight of oil, type of oil, running oil pressure and windage. Sorry to say but it's things like this that keeps me up at night. It would be interesting to see what would the oil pressure loss would be if on the same engine you went from a non drill lifter to a drilled lifter. On a little different note...I have the same feeling when people run a aftermarket lifter in a Mopar. Most of the aftermarket lifters have a oiling hole to feed the pushrod / rocker, like a Chevy lifter. I have found that this does work fine but the bleed off of the lifter can come at a much lower RPM. I know of several hydraulic camed Mopar engines running strong above 6500 RPMs and most other are done by that RPM. If the lifter has small hole on the face...would it also bleed off the same way?? Well I guess no sleep for me tonight. What do you think??

Everyones on their own with spring pressures, but I have been running the Howard's EDM hole lifters for a year, 7000 rpm at the finish line. Comp Cams MM305S-10, 279º/287º@0.050", .650"/.630" at 1.5; .693"/.672" with my 1.6 rockers 150 lbs seat, 440 lbs open (accounting for lash) Now that is almost .700" lift with a flat tappet cam!

I am wondering what the difference would be EDM vs non-EDM. I have a 528 hemi with fully grooved wide mains, H-beam rods, through the push rod oiling for the exhaust rockers and edm lifters. Oil pressure cold is 75-80 psi but when everything gets hot it is down to 20 psi at idle and I attribute this to the above. But the pressure does go up to 70 as you increase the rpms. Just dont like the low pressure at idle. I know they say use the 10 psi per 1,000 revs rule...
