Overthinking things...Trust me I do it too..These lifters are solids so the bleed off is a non-issue...FWIW the flat cam syndrome was kinda the final straw in my decsion to go with solids on this engine.. having to pull the covers every couple thousand miles to check the lash means the valve cover gaskets get touched means the typical leaking big block valve covers never happens...Pumped-up lifters will nebver happen again...The trade-off is that little mechanical noise/music under the hood...Totally worth it IMO...

what kind of spring pressure can you run with these lifters?

Everyones on their own with spring pressures, but I have been running the Howard's EDM hole lifters for a year, 7000 rpm at the finish line.

Comp Cams MM305S-10, 279º/287º@0.050", .650"/.630" at 1.5; .693"/.672" with my 1.6 rockers
150 lbs seat, 440 lbs open (accounting for lash)

Now that is almost .700" lift with a flat tappet cam!

Regardless where the hole is drilled, I can see that kind of lifter putting more oil on the cam and for what your trying to prevent....this is a good thing.

I will say this.....16 lifters equals 16 oil leaks and that means a less oil pressure down stairs.

I am wondering what the difference would be EDM vs non-EDM. I have a 528 hemi with fully grooved wide mains, H-beam rods, through the push rod oiling for the exhaust rockers and edm lifters. Oil pressure cold is 75-80 psi but when everything gets hot it is down to 20 psi at idle and I attribute this to the above. But the pressure does go up to 70 as you increase the rpms. Just dont like the low pressure at idle. I know they say use the 10 psi per 1,000 revs rule...

Then, the hole will only be in the right spot on two occasions, needing
multiple holes around it's periphery to be any more effective than a
single hole in the center.

Sales gimmick

The hole in my Hughes lifters are in the center.

I was referring to the Crowers, above.

Crower cool-face lifters are very nice, too.

Crower has the edm hole offset, which is supposed to distribute the oil over the lobe/lifter face better.

if the lifter is spinning!

If the lifter is not spinning then your cam will be ruined regardless

someone got the joke! yay!

for what is the good life if not doing things thoughtfully?

FWIW my 472 Hemi had Howards EDM lifters in it and held 75 psi at about 1,500 rpm. I rebuilt this engine for a milder application and put in a Comp hydraulic cam. The oil pressure was nearly the same. The dyno showed 80 psi average. I think idle was 1,200 or so and 75 psi then.
I really don't think there is much difference. Maybe 5-10 psi at idle. This is with a HV Mellings pump . The only other difference I can think of is I switched from external to internal pick ups at the same time.
