Lucky he didn't loose the car. Not a bad idea to neutral it, but you have to use the correct valve body and shifter with the clean neutral behind high gear.
If the results don't match the theory, change the theory.

I could never understand why guys want to shift their cars into neutral after a pass. Mainly on alum rods.. get the rpm down to save rod life and if you are letting the rpm pull the car down your just keeping the rpm up

I could never understand why guys want to shift their cars into neutral after a pass. I did that many years ago. Hurst Pro Stick. If you pulled the release just right, it would glide right to neutral. Never missed. Probably lucky I didn't tear up the car.
