That pic looks like oil starvation or something, the ones I have with broken rods the big end is still bolted to the crank, the crank and bearings look perfect and a very clean break and no visable bend to the rod at all. Also that is a 6.1 not a 5.7, you can tell because it is oarnge, has pin clips and bushed for full floating rods.

I still miss the old board I could get pics off my phone right onto it, still can't finger it out on here after several lengthy conversations.

Bore the hole out and put a Welch plug in it! Or fabricate a cover plate. Or get a different one.

We picked up 4 or 5 with bad engines off the CL with between 130K & 180K on the clock one run hot the rest looked like the oil was never changed with at least two had the block windowed & still drove on & off the trailer

Agree, I have one and they ran it without water, seats swapped cylinders. Also the oil pumps where inadequate from 03-07 after that they used 6.1 pumps( this would be the first thing replaced if buying those years). Have three of them like that. Junk yards are getting $1,700 to $2,800 for used running engines because of these problems around here. One of the largest auto auctions on the east coast in town here, lot of dealers, so they see the most that's broke. Always these same two problems, mechanic next door has done 9 in the last year and a half. I get the best usable ones.

Must have been the same design team Harley had on the Twin Cam engines......

in my area there are a lot of 4.7 and 5.7 equipped vehicles for sale with bad engines. Boneyards are asking $2500.00---$3500.00 for the engine.

Funny thing, for whatever reason the blown Hemi phenomen doesn't seem to exist around here and I've never seen one, until I went to pay a contractor last week and he had an 06 sitting in his yard with a blown 5.7 lol. Didn't kick rods or anything but was apparently knocking badly

My son's Durango(in Texas) hydro locked after a severe rain storm. It split the block. He was told it's a common occurrence.

The early 2nd gen Durango drew fresh air for the fuel tank venting system from inside the frame rail. There were some reports of boaters hydrolocking engines after backing in to launch or retrieve a boat. That was changed in late 05 Model Year trucks to draw air from behind the fuel filler neck in the 1/4 panel.

The air intake is good for 19" of water fording.

Please tell me more about retrofitting 6.1 oil pumps onto certain year 5.7 engines.

Looks like mine hydrolocked on #7 cylinder. Top ring stuck in the groove, a chip in the top of the piston, evidence of moisture.Rod broke and put a hole in both sides of the block, as well as taking out the cast in oil galley tube! Big end of the rod is still bolted to the crank and spins free. Heads are okay too.
