This is a interesting topic and clearly shows how spoiled alot of us have gotten with our pump gas strokers.

Since im working on a "parts on hand" 318 build im really interested in this deal here.

Back to being spoiled..... Remember in the 70-80s before the stroker kits and such it wasnt uncommon to change rod bearings often in oem rods and even break one from time to time.

Alot of the mag builds of the time back then showed racers that did many many times the work we do now only to go alot slower.

I dont think the op-s goals are out of reach at all just alot more work and alot more upkeep on the build.

Im wondering if he could toss a oem cheater crank in it 3.45 stroke as there are many around.

I hope its all posted as you get started, different is good and for some its about personal goals, not the most cu inch and fastest slips.

The blocks I have are 69-70 blocks, and a 71 block. Ive already had the bores checked and do not want to go over +.020.

I have 2 steel 340 cranks.

Rods and pistons, aftermarket. I'm looking at Diamond slugs and K-1 or Molnar rods.Unless I find a deal on something else that will work.I'm not ruling out Scat rods or any other brand of pistons.

Cam.. I'll talk on the phone to the various grinders.

Of course, everyone's opinion here is greatly valued as well.

Ok so you're talking Super Stock, his weight at 3200 puts a 340 car in E or F class. The current records for SS/D-9.07. E-9.24. F-9.33 G-9.46, that's porting the heads, any cam, stock compression any 4 barrel intake and stock factory carb. I'm sure that takes big bucks to massage those parts to the hilt. So if he puts the same money in his 318 (22 ci less) why couldn't he run high nines? For a lot less money 10.70 will be easy. $7500 to port a set of heads and intake, that's 150 hours, likes 10 hours being a month, 8 hours a day for 19 days, somebody's getting ripped.

I was jumping in on the Kung Fu TV show themed banter, was supposed to be funny, guess I shouldn't quit my day job lol.

A 71 340 in an A body will only fit in I, J, or K in Super Stock.

Yep my mistake, looked at it wrong

I'd say build it and see what it does. I actually was going to do the same thing excpet I was going to build a class legal engine. My Demon would have fit into GT/MA using a small valve 318 combo. My son decided at the time to attend college out of state,so that plan was shelved.

I hope you build the 318 and post the build and results.
