That made me think about an incident with my 74 Road Runner. I was 18 and wanted to see if I could start the engine. It had no carburetor.
No problem!

Dump a little gas in the intake and it'll be good, right?

Yeah, it fired right up.

Then, it fired up.

I lost some eyebrows over that deal.

I had one floating around the Best Of Moparts for a while. It was the time the hot rod exploded.

Funny as that sorta happened to me. When I was younger I worked at a Ford Dealer from 1974 to 1980 and around 1976 I pulled a Torino 351 two barrel carb car in the shop and pulled the carb off and it was late in the day. I figured I would fix the carb on the bench the next day and I pulled the car in the bay next to mine since that guy was gone for the day. Well I forgot to take the keys out of the car and whn I walked in the next morning the guy who worked in that bay was backing that Torino out of his bay with flames coming out from under the hood !!! eek Yes the carb fuel line was right near the intake holes and the fuel pumped right into the intake when he started it. Course I ran for a fire ext as other did and we put it out. The guy jumps out and says .....hey it started right up. But of course it was my fault for not leaving the hood up and taking the key out and unhooking the battery. Ron

10 yrs ago I started my car just to see if it would crank/start & it did & I decided to crawl underneath & tighten one last bolt on the mtr mt which would have taken a half minute. this was in a closed garage but 30 seconds no big deal, well the eng shifted & pinned my hand not enough to crush it but definitely enough to secure it firmly (closed garage eng running no one within earshot). Luckily there was a hyd bottle jack JUST within reach of my outstretched (other) hand which I was able to pull it in too me and jack up the frame to free myself. EDIT I've always heard the qjet is one of the best OE carbs ever made. I kept one that I am going to rebuild/try out one of these days. I'm wondering if you can get rods/jets for em

for some reason this reminds me of the last mad max movie when the guy was on the hood of the car spitting race fuel into the blower intake

Sound as good as a Thermoquad when the secondaries kick in? That's an awesome sound!

The qjets ive driven are in no way cooler than the t quads when mashed.

In 1978, I was 19, and very sick, and the local hospital gave up. They were sending me to Boston, which is about a thirty mile drive. There was no Medflight then. I was rolled into a 1978 Chevy C30 ambulance with a 454, not knowing if I would last through the ride.

I knew there was still some life in me when I realized a few miles into the trip, "Holy schitt! I can hear the secondaries over the siren!!"

Someday I'll have another C-body.
