I didn't like the BBC option because the lower hose is on the wrong side, I would have needed a new radiator to go along with it. I've also had bad luck with water pumps and motor plates leaking, so this seemed like a good alternative.
$400 water pump and $300 worth of -16 fittings and lines.
As the kids like to say YOLO.

Lots, it has straight 30 weight break in oil in it.
Gonna need some thin oil once its squared away.

Ended up making 6 runs yesterday with the best being 10.28@131, 1.44 60 foot. Not bad for a 3500# ride. Typical me I was in a bracket race so I didn't make any changes to the timing or carb, will have to start playing with it at the next available test session. Good first outing, more to come!

Dustin, what was the other combo? in the first thread you said it was a 450. what heads were on that? I guess the converter doesn't stall 5800 behind this engine either

454" 4.185x4.125", Small block, B1-MC's, E85, 12:1, .619/.641 274/280@.050 "street" roller. It was a good combo til it broke a rod and cracked the main web in my R3. Lack of block availability turned me off from building it again.
Not sure about converter flash with the new combo yet, probably not 5800. I might go test Friday to answer some questions about jetting, timing, shift points etc.
