If you go with a home built pan, be sure and figure out a way to make it easy to inspect for oil or water in the pan, and do it often! I built one that was very close to the frame, couldn't check it easily, and had a serious incident as a result. A fast repair in the pits, put the whole deal back together, got back in line to make a run, and five feet off the line the car went hard left to the wall, so close I swear I could see the grain in the concrete wall. There was a slow water leak, and it splashed out of the pan on launch. Yes, I did have hasmat in there. Greg, Some mats will only absorb oil, is that what you have/had ? .

I have to get a diaper as well. I am using this guy http://www.russlerii.com/Home_Page.htmlNHRA approved and he seems like he really knows his stuff. He has called me three times to double check measurements so he gets it right. That don't happen much any more that a company takes workmanship that seriously. My tie rod passes through the oil pan, so he is custom building it. Decent price as well. I should have mine in about a week he says. I bought one of his and cheaply made. Material is nothing more than a light canvas. The wrap straps are made of thin nylon and catches are plastic. Those two items are identical in very way to he belly bag joggers wear. it fits, the straps do what they need to do, and the plastic couplers haven't been an issue on either of our engines. Whether it's better or worse than others, Russ was great to work with and filled a void that needed addressed.

How do the belly pans work? Is there a certain height that the sides of the pan has to be? Is it supposed to be a full surround? I'm asking because my new frame might lend itself to a removable pan. Might be easier than a diaper. It's in the NHRA rule book. Material thickness, minimum side height and absorbent specs. I run a belly pan from the front bumper to the trans cross member.

Can you use 1/4 turn fasteners to hold on the belly pan? Something like a Dzus? I think it would be great for removing it quickly...Tim

Most tube chassis cars have Carbon pans held on with Dzus fasteners. We normally do them on "regular" cars with alum, because of the way they have to be made, but we still use Dzus fasteners.
I have said it before. I MUCH prefer pans. Diapers are just a pain. They seldom fit REALLY well, they tend to sag down, get into flywheel. Some cars they have to be installed before motor goes in car and others lay on the headers........PASS. I can have a pan off and out of my way in 60 seconds, which includes hunting up the Dzus tool.........LOL!!!
