Jim is correct......... If you're not going to reuse the current SR's and will be buying something new, I'd get -1's over SR's for that application.
I'm not sure I'd go for the 345's or not on a 499.
I'd probably do 325's with a 2.25 intake valve, along with a Jesel 1.7 rocker set-up.

I am changing my answer. I thought he was looking at switching from one to the other. But after looking at these threads and seeing that he is building an entirely NEW motor, new heads, new block and I assume new rods and pistons........I am falling back to my other answer. Why would you NOT build a B-1. The bare castings MIGHT cost you a bit more, depending on connections, but otherwise parts cost is a wash.

Rockers, headers and other stuff might be the issue Monte.
Unfortunately this ...like all of my builds will be on a budget. I think in my case sticking with the SR's might be the best bet.

Not to start a war here, but what did Bob tell you to do? Just curious.

The correct answer is usually at the intersection of your budget and how fast you want to go.

A buddy of mine has some 572-13's laying around that he doesn't need. On heads like these do you have to run a very big cam with them to make it work?

That way when you get your aftermarket block you can set them on kill at that time.

Edit: here's the link

I own the B1's you speak of and I chose to put a new set of indy -1 325 on my 512. My plan is an all aluminum 588 with the B1's eventually. However it is going to cost me close to what I paid for the -1 just to get the Jessel rockers fit correctly on the B1's. If budget is not an issue build a big one that can can utilize the big big runner and will run clean on the stop. If not stick with a smaller head and go out and kick some Chev 632 butt!!!!!!

I don't know how Sheldon Gecker used to do it back in the day with the King Kong Daytona. It is my understanding he ran small cubes and big B1' Heads?????

I bought my - 1's of Dwayne and he reused all of my valves and springs to save me a few bucks! Worked out great.

This is what I was gonna do with my B1 m/c heads.. I
bought a new mega block Callies 4.15 crank and PC pistons
for a 15:1 high rpm 514ci engine.. I was gonna run in
the .900+ lift and put in a Daytona tube chassis car..
plus I was gonna spray it hard..I wanted to build a quick
16 car but then they changed the rules... but I sold it
all off due to I couldnt get my NHRA license any longer

Are B1 heads currently "readily available"?
Seems like at one point you kinda had to wait for the koffels November sale to happen to be able to get a set.
Anyone know what the current price is for bare heads, the intake manifold, valley cover, and head studs?

My gut feeling is you're going to be into a B1 build for a couple grand more than a SR/MW build.
