Definitely disconnect the battery when not nearby.

iagree Headlight switch. Make sure you have a ground strap on the column going to the studs that hold it in place, and a ground strap between the firewall and the cylinder head. I've installed aftermarket headlight switches that had their own stud explicitly for connecting a dedicated ground wire to them.

Well we are trying to troubleshoot this long distance over the phone. My son pulled the plug off of the back of the light switch. The clicking continued.

He got a stethoscope out and was able to snake it to the VL and he seemed to think that the clicking was coming from there.

I need to get the dash grounded and then see for my self if it still keeps cycling. If I finally decide that's it, I'll get the old VL back out and put it back into the dash.

Stay tuned

Thanks

Sounds like he's discovered it. I got a stethoscope and a bore scope from HF & I am so impressed with the borescope. I've only had a need for it several times so far but it is been a lifesaver
