Yeah that particular engine, de-bored? HUh? Lets shroud the valves (in a mopar BB with crappy valve placement already) more and see if it makes more hp!
As for testing the windows, simple test it, pull the window cavern thingys and put a flat plate blocker back on it and test again. Read the article. I fixed what I could with that small of a bore by shifting the intake valve closer to the exhaust and closer to the intake valley and with a 1 degree change with the guide, and angle milling the head and shifting the head on the dowels .100". Also my head fixture plate is doweled so when I test on the flow bench the head is in the exact same position as on the engine. Nothing any shop couldn't do. I will be testing with flat aluminum plates on our 470 cube iteration of this engine this summer. J.Rob

The cross section of the port was 2.850" which was the target for maximum torque over the entire RPM range. Two questions: 1. Are you talking about your super modified Victors, or the Procomps you also used? 2. Is the 2.85" measurement the Average CSA, or the Minimum CSA? 1. The Eddy victors NOT the Pro-Comps. 2. 2.85" is the minimum CSA of these heads. Thanks, J.Rob

That is some very "Smokey Yunick-esque" rule interpretation there. Didnt they build a 361 B based engine a couple years back too? The rules are very well written and large kickout pans provide very little benefit on the Y block architecture. I tried something I am sure someone somewhere has tried, I just never had and really wanted to. J.Rob

Different builder but yes someone did. http://www.hotrod.com/how-to/engine/1401-mopar-412-big-block/ It's interesting to see what these guys come up with, and whether it works or not. It is interesting to see, even more interesting to see in person. J.Rob

Remember the goal is to make the most from 3000 to 6500, yes the heads and such can be made to put down way more hp but it would be at the top, scores are calculated from torque and hp. So they no longer factor in price of build like they used to? Price never was a factor in the EMC. Maybe that MoparMuscle Mag deal but not the EMC. That price deal would get to convoluted and impossible to police. J.Rob

Cool build no doubt. I didn't know that was yours until now. You definitely had a lot of time into it, and thought. So basically what I am getting from this is a bigger bore/shorter stroke is useless in this contest? Say like 4.320x3.750 for example. What happened on the whole exhaust flow? The intake flow seemed pretty strong. That's actually not that big of a CSA. Must of been aiming for velocity. To pay someone to do the machine work on a motor like this has to be crazy. What's it cost to build one of these motors? Thanks for the replies, details, Info. A large part of the score comes from how well the engine accelerates off the brake right at the "hit", engines with very high piston speed seem to do better-that 440 made as much as 551 ft/lbs @ 3000 rpm on our dyno in an earlier config that I should have returned to. Exhaust flow was compromised by the small bore/large intake conundrum. Yes velocity and stable flow are the 2 biggest keys. To pay someone to do this? LMFAO! Me and my partner did all of this one on our own time which was basically months of coming in @ 5:00 am and leaving @ 9-10 pm every weekend and late Friday nights in between. The cost of just the components on this one was somewhere around $15k CDN. EMC is no different than any other form of racing. It's an addiction that trumps reason sometimes. J.Rob

Slightly off track but i'm about to buy an engine masters 470 from 2003 built by Tom Nelson, i have spoken briefly with him over facebook but can't find any solid motor info on the web. He said PHR did an article titled " A slice of wedge " but i can't find any info anywhere. Can anyone tell me more about this engine, it has since had the 383/13 heads taken off and swapped for mildly cleaned up 440-1's, comp is lower and i suspect the cam is smaller. Mick
