Thanks to all... keep it coming. He will be dropping his truck off shortly and I will be starting in on it.

Sounds like I need:

A cross member
potentially a rear sump pan and pickup
CCP has P/S kits
Scarebird can help with Disc Brake conversion stuff
Looks like Shumacher has the BB motor mount brackets

How about the drive shaft? Likely have to have one made?

Will stock radiator handle the 440? Will be a stock rebuild.

Will anything in the suspension have to be beefed up for the 440 or will the stock setup support it sufficiently?

If you build it like the factory did a 383/auto you won't need a cross member or a rear sump pan. If you have no pan then a rear sump is probably easier to find. The driveshaft from a 383/auto truck would be the correct length, and since the crossmember is in the same spot for all trucks, perhaps the slant 6/auto driveshaft is the same length as well.

I don't know that the radiator has the inlet/outlet in the correct spots, but if so, you may be able to get by with it. I do know some with big blocks said their trucks ran hot. They don't make radiators for these trucks but apparently a Charger radiator is a close fit. Again you will have to check where the inlet/outlet is. http://www.championradiators.com/Dodge-D100-D200-1961-1971-radiator

The suspension should be fine if it is in good condition.

Mine looks close to the "rear sump pickup" in the last pic. I will measure the length of the "bends" tomorrow to help confirm. How I ended up with a FS pan and a RS pickup I have no idea. On the crossmember as said (& I mistakenly alluded to wrongly) you do not need a crossmember unless you have a hyd clutch setup and are going to a 727 & probably also a non hydro stick (I was thinking of my setup/conversion plans). On the hyd clutch setups (like my /6 & future 451 will have) the rear mount(s)s bolt to either side of the bellhousing & no crossmember tho one will bolt in.

Robert - This is the rear sump; hope it helps. The tape is hooked over the threaded end in the first pic.

A pic would be easier but my camera is down. EDIT My second leg is ~4" and yours is ~6". I'd about think it'd have to be the same one but let me go measure again tomorrow as that is a significant difference.

from the threaded end first leg is 4&1/8. second leg is 4&1/8. third leg is 2&1/4. last short horizontle leg is 1&1/8. with the screen held horizontle like it is in operation the height to horizontle height of angled threaded end tip is 8" and end to end with the tape in a straight line as the crow flies is 13 & 9/16.

As far as the oil pan goes on this D100 slant six to 440 conversion:

I know a guy that said his dad had a "402" pan on a 440 in a 65 D100 and that worked out OK.

Can I use a "402" pan and move along with this conversion or am I in need of the rear sump pan?

I also read in a Dodge Sweptline forum that an owner of a 67 383 CSS truck had a front sump pan in his truck from the factory.

Is a 402 pan considered a "front sump" If not, what applications of vehicles using a BB would have a front sump pan?

having a hard time sourcing a BB rear sump pan.

Thanks

its considered a "center" sump; pan (tho the sump ain't exactly centered). front/rear sumpers are all forward or all rearward. for a quick visual drain plugs are traditionally at the rear but not even sure if that holds with these. I will go check mine again & the 451 block is belly up so I will drop it on there. I know it was the opposite of what the guy sold me (I dont even think he knew he was wrong) however I feel lucky!.

Both the rear and front sumps were found on BB motorhomes from the early to late 70's.

An easy way to distinguish between the 2 is the drain plug - on the front sump it's located directly on the bottom of the pan and is in front; the rear sump is on the rear of the pan and up a little. The rear sump also has a port on the driver's side for a 90* fitting for the dipstick tube to screw into.

Rear sump first - this is one I sold awhile ago. Note the drain plug location, port on the side for the dipstick fitting, and the brass 90* fitting:

I lifted this pic from Google images. The front sump is on the left. Note the drain plug is on the bottom of the pan in the front.

Ding ding ding I (do) believe we have a winna, thanks Vdriver! I'll go see what I have. EDIT I have the front sumper on the far left. I still ain't sure which one I need for my 65 D100 big block granny 4 sp project but iirc a credible source said "front sump"

Thanks for the info. Further research shows that 67-71 Sweptline 383 trucks, used a front sump oil pan. 72 and later, rear sump.
