I'm in the same boat as you. I have made two templates, but am not really satisfied with either, so haven't had the stones to start drilling. About two years ago, [restorations by] Julius told me he had a template, and would drill the holes for me if I drove up. Never got passed the phone tag stage, and then it just wasn't a priority for me any more. He's in your neck of the woods. Maybe he still has that template. Linky.
Down to just a blue car now.

well that's what my intentions were, now if i could only find a hood, maybe somebody here has a hood and could make that template?
I hear Stu (MidPenMopar) has a hood laying around that he held for some deadbeat who never picked it up. Maybe he can help.

Ok, here goes. I used a flexible tape measure that belongs to my wife. I laid it across the hood from one side to the other, stretched tight and taped 2 & 3/4 inches back from the front corners of the hood (to the top side of the tape measure). You can see that the hood is curved and that the letters are not level. The 4 outer letters are spaced back from the tape measure 1/16 inches (2nd and 4th letters) and 1/8 inches (1st and 5th letters). I also measured them from the front of the hood to each letter.
Yeah, it's hopped up to over 160...

I agree with the former post about drilling smaller holes than you need to be able to work them around where you need them, so the letters will lay straight. I also recommend you use some heavy card stock (slightly sticky backed would be nice)and punch holes in it so your letters fit snug and correctly through it. Remove all paper remnants around the letter studs. Then trace around the letters and cut them out. Use these as you would your chrome letters to place on your hood. When you have them placed where you are satisfied, go through the holes and mark the center of the holes. Hold your breath, and drill! Good luck, I hope these helped. Jess in ky
