The 70 is about 20% stronger and has a wider gear selection....

I have no idea which way you can go with parts. I do know that both use the same rear cover. I'm probably going back to a 60 housing. You are more than welcome to my 70 housing. It already has 4.10 gears in it. It's a floater style Ford truck rear, so you will have to cut it down and weld on housing ends.

Kenny...it'll bend again. You need a stronger housing that you can backbrace. Get a 9".
If you're dead set on keeping the Dana, just retube the one you have now.

I've seen Dana 60 with a one inch round tube front brace from the bearing ends on both sides to the pinion support work thumbs

Hey Chip,
That's not what happened. Basically, my mistake. Learned how to weld heavy steel using the Dana as my guinea pig. First ladder bar bracket setup broke loose. Luckily, still had the leaf springs in. Rewelded at least one more time, maybe twice. After all that heating, tubes finally took a setting slightly bowed. Haven't moved since, Axles still slide in and out dead square. Just don't think I should be hacking up these tubes anymore. I priced retubing through Currie. Almost as expensive as a new S60 housing. I bought this 52" Dana complete from Direct Connection drum to drum with 5.13 gears for $850. It's now cut down to 46 1/2".

I cut a bunnch of the stock truck brackets off from 2 Dana 60s. You can heat and shrink the tube to move it. Neither one of mine moved the tubes more than .060" at the end. The one in the 64 has 300 passes, 60ft in the mid to high 1.20's@3350 The other in the high 1.30's@3775 Neither have bent. Both are over 45" wide with no braces.
