After starting this project,I reeled in fresh interest to help keep this sport and Mopars alive. I'm 62 and my 23 year old son jumped in with both feet and became certified pipe welder, an extremely valuable asset to this project. It started out as an engine swap, but took off.
493 big block,Victor head, roller cam(Thanks John),aluminum rods,Diamond 13.5 piston, etc. Pictured fenderwell Hooker headers and CAP front suspension components that were already on hand ,dictated front cage and frame design.Strut front end would probably been a better choice.Project is incomplete but in the latter stages, finally! some pics as it sits -

The radiused wheel wells and the Ansen Sprints make the car. I love it.

drag car with a old school look. It does not get any better than that.

I hope to see a old school 70's paint scheme on that car, or at least

old school lettering. I see a lancer GT emblem on the front fender

very cool car

While waiting for those elusive Mopar R/B iron blocks to appear,we are working on assembling everything else not engine related. If they don't surface in a few months, we'll go forward w/aluminum main capped, late thick- main webb production block.
We are removing or trimming everywhere we safely can. I thought that I should pass along something that I found a while ago on another website while trying to find anything fiberglass for this old Lancer. We built our own race quality, fiberglass hood. It's not show quality, but looks and fits great for race only vehicle.I googled-How to make a fiberglass hood- and this what I came across. The author described his process for making a 94 Chrysler Concorde hood.We followed his instruction and built a Lancer hood.We may now build a lift off trunk lid the same way. Hood came out great!Got a racecar with no fiberglass available- have a look at this site. www.midwestattachment.com/hood.htm
We also built a glass front bumper using 2 sectioned fiberglass 71-72 Maverick front bumpers. We're trying to save money wherever we can so we can spend it where it makes the most sense-AN AFTERMAKET BLOCK!

Driveshaft tunnel is the same thing I did. I didn’t want a spining 7000 rpm shaft coming up and beating me to death thru the thin aluminum floor. Great project off main stream type cars, I did almost the same, what started as a making a Duster lighter morphed into a total different car over 20 years. Nothing better than having your boy help you?

No not finished, about 90% done. I listed it in the race cars for sale section. A developing illness prevents me from finishing or driving it. It is an extremely good deal for someone Mopar oriented to finish. If I can ever figure out how to post pictures on here I will. otherwise I can send recent pictures by text. Bill
