I don't pay much attention to posts like that. When they seem that FAR out of touch, just means they need to crack the window in their moms basement and get some air..........LOL!!!!

When I switch from my 90% instrument (bass guitar), to 5-string banjo, the first few songs have flaws, that keep them from being above average. Pick a shop that has people that can read, and actually check their work against spec. If not, when they switch from their 90% bread and butter (gm), to the 10% mopar work, it will keep your engine below average.

Beautiful car!

so far I have used 2 different shops and getting ready to go to my third,,ALL of them have been and still are multi brand shop's,the first guy started doing claimer motor's under contract and had to give up his normal clientele to keep a steady workload coming in, the second guy finally gave it up and retired after 35 years of machining to finally start enjoying the fruits of his labors, both guys are dam good at what they do, the third guy also has a impeccable reputation and works on every thing from street beaters to pro stock stuff,,why in the name of satan would I not give this guy my trust to do it right, the way I look at it is, that block, crank, rod's, etc. don't care what logo is on the valve covers, if the man can do the job then the man can do the job,Period!

Again...

On a MOPAR website...

Wow!

I've been a Mopar guy for as long as I can remember. I used to get verbally beat down daily in high school by the Chevy and Ford guys, unless they were fighting with each other.

For many years I thought the same way you do, and then I got experience as a production CNC machinist, and suddenly I realized that the brand doesn't matter. Whether it is a chunk of 1018 steel or 4340, it is still machined to a spec. The same thing applies to an engine. Monty is spot on.

Since I'm a Mopar guy, I guess I can't properly build a GM or Ford motor......wanna bet. I can and do build everything, because as much as I'd like to do just Mopar, it simply doesn't pay the bills. I specialize in the Mopar valvetrain, but I just did a Chevy 383 that needed pushrods so long that many Chevy engine builders would argue they are too long, but I know it's right because I understand the valvetrain. Hence, the Mopar guy is building a better Chevy engine than many Chevy builders would.

Who would've guessed?

Doug asked about good machine shops in his area, and too many have completely destroyed his post...

I was interested as well, but not any more.

There are still some good suggestions in this posting as long as you weed out the dummies that think a "Mopar" engine is not an internal combustion engine that works on the same premise of all other internal combustion engines. Any shop "that does good work" will do good work on any brand engine as it's their name and their way of providing a living for themselves that at stake.

Lol. This is ridiculous. All Monte was saying is that someone should look at all their options. I'm not an engine builder, but if a guy has good, modern equipment, the knowledge to use them, and a proven reputation, why couldn't he build a Mopar? Now for something specific such as getting a cam spec'd, I'd contact someone familiar with camming those engines.

FFS, what is so inclusive on/in a Mopar to need a "Mopar" only shop?

Especially when it comes to machine work. This isn't rocket science!

Wow,,,didn't realize this would be a can of worms.
I do appreciate the info on various shops, I will figure out where I will end up. Hopefully things will revert back to the original post..lots of good people here,,,hate to see the back and forth amongst car people.

As far as the car goes,,,,,
Going to be a street car ( sort of,,lol ),, 500 stroker, INDY EZ heads, solid cam, pump gas.
Car is a 70 Challenger Western Sport Special,,
Putting it back together from the ground up,,,car was driven into the garage and torn apart,,and then sent out for body and paint,,,and I got it back as a roller and trying to get it together.. coming along,,,

Thanks for the comments and complements ( Hi Buckeyebrawler and Bill ) Buckeye,,love that Belvedere you guys have,,, wish my 65 pulled the wheels like that,,,I have seen you at Norwalk previously.
Hope to see you guys this summer,,,Russ as well.

Doug
