Ok, I'm closing out on this thread ( I hear clapping )as there really is nothing more to be gained - those that believe a certain way including me ) aint gonna change. I respect that and hold no animosity and surely don't hate anyone - major waste of time. Besides, you are all Mopar freaks - and it is winter. I really do run the gambit with my shat boxes and will leave this post with 3 pics and something for ya-all to think about. Pic #1 = blown small block running .o28 to .030 plug gap. When the AF is in the ball park, plugs light and car goes fast ( notice I didn't say really fast smile ). Pic#2 = 33 Plymouth I just finished and about to go on it's madden voyage. YIPPIE!!! Warmed up 360 ( 9.7:1 ). Only run it on the stands so far, but runs fine with a bone stock Mopar ignition ( orange) box and plugs set at .040. Might try .045 if it passes initial road test. 3# pic. 2004 X-fire. Has a little 3.2 L V6 in it. Guess what; 2 plugs per hole and the gap is .040 per plug. I ask you to ask yourself why, when one plug per hole gapped at .025 would probably suffice. All very different cars and applications, but they do all have spark plugs. BTW, I did learn some stuff. Unfortunately, no much technical I didn't already know. Have fun beating each other up. wave

Last season I lost two races because of having a plug gap that got too wide.
Running a MSD 7AL-3 I switched from the coil on the right,
to the one on the left,
my plug gap went from the installed .035 to over .060!!! All by itself! The car would NOT run under on track only load and I tore my hair out trying to fix the issue, never pulling the plugs. With the 8261 coil and a 7AL-3 MSD recommends a .020 plug gap. That's what I went with and now I check plugs and reset gap as necessary before every race.

That's the same coil that cooked my distributor cap electrodes. Wish I never bought it.

My bad, just saw that the right one was for the 7-series boxes/ignitions............

The right or left one did the damage cos I run the one on the right and have for years w/out any issues w/a 6-series box.......

Left one (8261). Too powerful - with I went with a milder one.

The one on the left Thumper. I ran the one on the right since about 2000? or so. It was actually bought for a v-drive boat I had, 440 of course, When I sold the boat and bought the Challenger, I kept the engine and ignition and it went right in the car. I won a product certificate from MSD in 2014 and so I thought after 15 years with the same coil and distributor that I would upgrade. Threw me for a loop! Never had an issue with MSD except for the chips giving up the ghost. Still don't have any issues, I just need to pay closer attention to things. But that coil on the left is a WELDER! Who knew it would cook your plugs???

I've had good luck with the dig 6's of all types. My fave for the street strip app Is the gig 6 AL2 programmable.

I never set gap, just look to see there is one. I've played with gaps on the dyno and track and never found anything. Usually the Auto lite AR series come out of the box at .028 and that's what they go in at. Wide enough to make a spark, and close enough not to get puffed out lol.

I like and use the race boxes on the street and strip, 404,7,7A,7C, and 7AL2 realcrazy thumbs whistling I run wide gaps also, never burnt one open though work I do have a Digital 7 non programmable with transformer coil and a grid box for the new race car, maybe I will have to watch the plugs at first confused

Definitely check them if you are running that 8261 coil. It took three races, about 10 runs for my little problem to show up.

Why would you run a coil that MSD says is not compatible with a 6 box?

i just checked the gap on brand new Autolite AR3934's and they measure .022. awhile back i talked to them about plug gaps and they told me not to regeap them. they dont want the ground strap falling off in the engine.
