Since you want to stay kinda stock looking and seems budget is a factor, Why don't you put a set of 915s to up the compression?

Conventional wisdom is that the 484 and 509 do not work well with exhaust manifolds and that you want a cam with less overlap.
What is the current combo and what does it run? And why the truck manifolds routed to the front? Can you change other stuff or the cam only?
Now I need to pin those needles, got to feel that heat Hear my motor screamin while I'm tearin up the street

That's a wierd combo you got there, not slagging it just kind of intrigued on how well it works as is and why you did it that way (log manifolds dumping out the front). B body headers are pretty cheap and easy to find EDIT: never mind about the exhaust set up, just saw its an early Valiant, still interested in how it runs as is

I would say throw on some 915 heads and put a MP .528 cam in it. I think If I remember correctly someone??? Andy F??? did alot of testing and found the MP .528 to be the best through manifolds... That was going to by my comment as well. Even though his compression is low, the converter, lightweight box and decent rear gears he has should help cover that. But he wants a hydraulic cam. I wonder if one of the hughes whiplash cams are worth considering. They have a ton of exhaust duration which should help with those manifolds.

comp 268h, 270h, 268ah-10, xe268h, or that summit cam would work too.

It runs 13.30-13.40 through mufflers. Kid runs it in sportsman summit series. Car is a 4 time Goodguys VRA March Meet Champion. My Dad built it in 1990 and wanted it to look factory ....so no fenderwell hacks. He chose the 361 truck manifolds for clearance to make it look factory under the hood. Only reason he built the car with a 440 is because A. We had a bunch of them....and B. The Mopar Performance Bible said it wouldn't fit. It has power brakes even. Everyone on the West Coast knows this car. It's street driven and a heavy pig due to my dads OVER BUILDING everything.. 3800 lbs. We've done a 915 headed .533 hyd motor in it before and got it down to 12.75. Just looking at cam options for the next motor. We love running it on straight pump gas too. The car is consistant then all of the sudden it will toss out a WAY OFF number. We are getting rid of the 1990's Mallory Ign in favor of newer MSD stuff to hopefully cure that issue. My boy races a junior...a junior comp dragster...The Canary ...and now a S/C S/P dragster...and he's also eyeing my Dart for Pro. Thanks for all the tips....and keep em coming.

A couple more options.... Crower 271hdp, Howard's Street Force 3. These are all assuming a typical smogger CR of about 8.2-8.7:1. They would all still obviously work with higher CR, but if the CR was a point or so higher you could get away with more cam.

Can you show us a pic under the hood so we can see the setup? I'll get you one

WOW thats a heavy A body, especially an early one.I would listen to Dwayne's suggestions (fast68playmouth) and not to be a copy cat but I thought of the Crower 271hdp myself based on experiences ive read from others. That or something else in the mid 220s to low 230s @.050. Anything more than that I dont think you're going to go faster, just add lope. Some guys have gone pretty fast with that Crower grind and manifolds with stock converters and mild gears (high 12s)

Actually, I would say I'm one of those people that ran pretty good with that crower 271hdp. 28 years ago or so I put together a re-ringed 68 440, put some stock 346's on it that had been done by some napa store machine shop. I swapped out the springs and slapped them on. I used a std Performer intake with an old 780vs Holley. The car had 4.10's and I was running an OE lil red converter with the weight knocked off it. I used magnum manifolds on it for a while and it ran really well. It would try the tires without getting the throttle even half way down. Excellent manners and throttle response. Unfortunately, I never ran it at the track exactly like that. When it went to the track it had 1 3/4" headers on it. It went 12.40's @ 110 like clockwork. It was actually my winningest bracket combination.
After about a year and a half like that I cut the oil pressure relief spring down so the oil pressure was no longer 95psi. I adjusted it to have 55-60 instead. I also installed an underdrive lower pulley and swapped out the Performer for an original Torker. That ended up going 12.12 @ 112. I would shift at 5000 and it would run out the back at 5500. I have no doubt that with a decent bowl blend job it would have dipped into the 11's. Here is another vote for the Crower 271HDP! At the suggestion of several people here on Moparts, we installed that cam in a stock-ish appearing 440 with HP manifolds. Our 440 has a bit more compression and less gear, but man does it ever run nice and make power!

The Summit cam has way more seat timing than any of the ones I listed, which I really don't think will benefit the low compression of the typical smogger long block.
Similar to the Engle 2330 would be the Howard's 721941-12. It's a 904 lifter design, 271/281 adv, 224/234 @ .050, .518/.543 lift, 112lsa.
