If you are going with an after market block WHY are you setting the limits with a low deck block???
1970 Duster Edelbrock headed 408 5.984@112.52 422 Indy headed small block 5.982@112.56 mph 9.38@138.67

Mines never been dynoed. Runs 9.0-9.1/147-149 @ 3350lbs, 4.10, 10.5x31, foot brake. Best 9.02@151. Tall deck Mega block 4.5x4.5,-1 from Modern cut to 58cc, Comp .471" lobe 285/292 on 112 LCA in at 108,T&D 1.7,Trend 7/16 tapered, Flat top .043" ring, 14.8-1, Indy cross ram with either Holley or Eddy 750's,GZ pump, out of the box 2 1/8" Hookers. My bet is a good single plane and Dominator would be quicker. Probably would like a bigger header and more gear as well. Never run it past 7000-7100. Doug

I went with a shorter stroke 4.15 crank and 4.5 bore to make 528 cubes which at the time I felt matched the 440-1 heads well. I really don't have much info to go on other than my own best ETs and a preliminary dyno sheet. Made 847 hp with a lousy dragster pan and only one inch vacuum. 800 hp at 5700 rpm, max power from 6400 to 7000 rpm within ten hp or less. A new pan and better cam after the dyno session lowered the ET some. My 440-1 heads are the early versions, so I assume there is a bit more power in the newer version. I run Alky, Terminater injector, 3X intake, .775 lift roller, 62 cc chambers,15/1 compression, Very short dome, (.080?) full porting. Jesel vlave train. I am eventually going to go with 1.7 ratio rockers I have. Best ET was 8.77 at 153 mph, at altitude and 3055 pounds with a TF. You can go either way, low deck or hi, but the low deck eliminates the 3x intake and any tunnelram but a custom made piece. The low deck will be a bit lighter, and a little narrower in the chassis. If you are willing to consider budgeting for them, going with a high dollar block begs for better heads. Your basic upper limit will be 850 to 900 hp with the 440-1 heads, and there is another 150 hp possible if you switch to B1Mc heads.

I've had two motors that made close (526 C.I.high compression bracket motor 440 block that made 845 HP on race gas and 518 C.I.,10.78 to 1 comp. ratio 400 block 775 HP on pump gas Both motors where dyno tested on a DTS engine dyno in Klamath Falls, OR which is at 4300 Ft elevation, I don't remebmer the uncorrected numbers now but the pump gas motor ran faster,9.993 at 134.+ MPH through the full 3 inch exhaust on Oregon 91 octane pump swill than my 3450 lb Duster was legal for ) to your goals with the same set of 440-1 CNC ported by Jeff at MCH. That set of heads had the 2.250 intake valves and the standard size ehaust valves, those heads flowed right at 370 CFM at .700 lift. I'm building another, better, 400 block 518 C.I. bracket motor now with a vacume pump and a set of CNC ported 440-1 with Jesel paired shaft rockers, I'm hopng it will make real close to 900 HP on E85 with one carb.

Two ways RPM or Cubes. Most choose the cube way as it is less money and maintenance

My chosen engine shop that does my machine work wasn't afraid to tell me to go a full 4.500 bore right from the start. His opinion is take care of the motor well, and when it loosens up after a few rebuilds, hone it out to 4.502 or what ever the smallest it will clean up and order new pistons. You can do it again down the road if you still have the same motor. With rings being available in .005 over, as long as piston makers will custom make a slightly bigger piston, you can get a lot of life out of a Mopar 4.8 bs block.
