Cuda 440 six barrel shaker emblems were tapered from what I can remember. The text was tapered from front to back is what I mean, kind of to follow the bubble. May be wrong but this is what I had seen in the past as the difference between shaker and rally hood emblems.

Brushed finish on the 'cuda' part of the nameplate or chrome finish???
That will answer your question....
BTW rallye hood emblems have two pins not three.

The ones in the link are chrome finish on the CUDA name, whereas my original ones are brushed on the CUDA name. My originals also have the 3 pins. Are there any repros that are like the originals?

Thats Frank Mitchell and his chromed repops.Like mentioned earlier, they originally had a brushed finish on the "Cuda".I heard he had the original company in the Detroit area remake all these "NOS" emblems, but they could not dulpicate the brushed finish any more.Either a cost problem or EPA problem I heard

Can you guys confirm which ones are correct, original pieces? The two pin version? Did all shakers come with three holes?

My original shaker setup has 3 holes in the bubble, 3 pins with speednuts on the brushed CUDA emblem. Anyone repopping them correctly?

my shaker has 3 holes, but when I picked up the car in 1994, it only had 1 callout on it, with 2 prongs. I picked up a few NOS ones, but they were 2 prong emblems also. I've never seen a 3 prong emblem in person - but all the ones I have are brushed, not shiny. I'm sure my shaker bubble is original - looks like it has some time on the job, has some of the over spray on the underside, part #, and is in pretty used condition, and as far as I know, the repro's weren't out yet - Joe

Scott,
As the above poster was saying, I too took apart a real early built shaker (9-69) and it had 2 pin emblems in it (though it was drilled for three). It was an orig paint bubble, but whats the story on the emblems? Possible supply issue with the 3 pin ones and they threw on some 2 pin emblems instead? After all 2 pins are very commonplace but finding the real 3 pins is tough!

Paul I understand the "Never say never" deal but I'm gonna have to call you on that one, I know that you know your stuff but I've seen dozens of original bubbles on and off cars, never seen a factory one wearing 2 pin emblems. I'd guess they were replaced somewhere along the line (obviously a simple swap). Do you have any quality photos of your discoveries?

I wish I had a few dozen of these and not just the one I got from a garage clearout.
I sold it last year to a moparts member.

Shaker nameplates were all applied to the scoop by Fram before packaging the assembled units, sent via bedsteads to Hamtramck assembly.
The only nameplates they had in their facility were the 3 prong since that is all they dealt with.
As with Jules' photo, its always nice to have the original packaging to back up the real deal verses the all chrome repros.

Terry, we ready to get everyone jacked up yet about the shaker adapter rings? Come on, it will be fun and I think we owe it to all our friends here on the board. If you start it I'll post pictures with you of my examples.

Scott & Terry,
Thanks for the info on the emblems. The reason I was asking is because in the parts manual, specifically under shaker hood (sec23) it gives the emblem part number as 2998798, which is pictured-a 2 pin emblem.

While all the experts are here on the subject, here is a pic of my bubble. I didn't actually get the bubble out, this pic is old, but it sure looks like it has 4 holes. Is there any logical reason why someone would have added a 4th hole in-line with the emblem holes?

I guess the Challenger emblem should read "383 Four Barrel" for a 71 R/T shaker? And equally should use a 3-pin emblem?

Thanks!
Darren

Paul,
Parts manual information sometimes differs from what was actually used in production, the reasons vary but usually last minute changes or mistakes had occured that didn't make it into the manual before it was printed, likely the scenario in this case.

Ludington,
hard to say but originals only had 3 holes, it's likely someone added a custom/non stock emblem in the past that required an extra hole, tough to guess on that one.

Interesting observation and picture, but could one possibly also interpret that to mean nameplate for the scoop on the hood of a steel hood. I assume those are the nameplates that came with that packaging.
The photo Jules submitted is a true 440-6 shaker 3 prong nameplate and the box with it has 3462273, a part number number that is found in an earlier printing of the 71 parts books indicating shaker scoop nameplate.
Parts books printings were updated along the way through the model year to correct or update.
I notice yours is a Dec 1971 printing, the final printing and there are two asteriks beside the part number 2998798 which the key states "indicates change or addition".
Another oddity in the same column is "340 four barrel" obviously a Challenger emblem in the Cuda section.

Paul,
I have looked at the same numbers and found that even the 'cuda340 emblems are listed 159, but are for the 2 pin ones and are for the steel hood.

I just looked at the 3 pin original Shaker emblems from my 1970 `Cuda 440-6 that I purchased in 1981... both emblems have P/N 3462273. The replacement emblems on the car at the moment are the 2 pin P/N 2998798 bought from a dealer in about 1982.

Dont give up that easy. These cars all baffle us when we find things that arent supposed to be. Who's to really say for certain.
Just for the heck of it here's a page in the 23 section of another Dec 1971 printing showing the shaker nameplates for 1971 Cuda ( top left of photo)

A photo of the rear of the two pin and three pin 440-6 nameplates.
They were two different castings as seen by the casting number on the rear... 3462273 on the 3 pin... 2998781 on the two pin, same vendor 31025.
