alittle late i know since short block is assembled, but how do these numbers look for a 360 block making 650-700hp?

So the thrust side is Intake on 1-4 and exhaust on 5-8? That's a question. So #3 Top intake at .131" would be the thinnest area of any concern? I would be concerned at 650hp, but I don't have enough experience at 650hp SB to have an opinion with any merit, so here's a bump. bump

Not sure but I think on 3 major thrust is on exhaust side and minor on intake. I don't think front and back are of much concern. Block is bored to 4.040.

You may be able to. I had a 70 340 block bored .060 at 12.5:1 and never had an issue. This 360 is 71 block.

Major thrust is on the passenger side of the block.

The connecting rod points at it during the power stroke. It's all in the vectors. If you think of the connecting rod as the hypotenuse of a right triangle and the second leg in the direction of the stroke and draw them out, the third leg points directly at the cylinder wall and that is the major thrust.

R.

OK. So major thrust would be outside wall passenger side? Would there be a major on drivers side?

How fast are you looking to go Dave and at what weight? I copied off you sonic sheet and if I get a new smaller head for my checker want to see where my block is at.

9.99 will work. I'm a ET chaser/hobbiest. 3300# with me. Went a 10.35 best with previous 408 on pump gas.

I don't think you will have any problem running a 9.99

You more than likely end up with a problem on #3 on the drawing which is cyl #5. .128" just under the deck on major thrust will develop a radial crack where the deck ends. Run it until it gives you a problem and then sleeve it and continue on. I have one with similar dimen. on cyl 6 and it started having problems around 950 passes. This was a std. stroke .040 O.S. 1973 360, 367c.i. This engine went 10.25 at 129.99.MPH. Ran it for a few more weekends, while I got another engine ready. Was using coolant and anti freeze smell from passenger side header. Never milked the oil or dripped on the racetrack. Was told by three racetracks that they smell anti freeze while I was doing burn-out and staging. Engine is still on stand waiting repair over 10 years later.

#3 on drawing is cyl #5. Major is intake side. On 1/3/5/7 major is next to cam. 2/4/6/8 major is to the outside of block.

cool. cylinders are cemented at the bottoms. maybe this will help pervent cylinder flex and help it live. really only needs to make one pass in the 9's and i'm golden. if not i'll run it til it breaks. thanks for the help guys

Maybe you can get a 470 to run better than me cos these small blocks are as fast or FASTER than my junk.......

I've been 6.09 with no girdle, or fill with a 4.180 stroke on a stock block. Split, 3&5 on the back half.

Doing a new build. .030 1976 block, stock stroke, solid roller, girdle, thinking about a half fill. going to shoot for 8s @3600lbs
