Were the cowls always blacked out before the body color was applied? I have owned a bunch of '70 e-bodies and would have guessed the cowl blackout came after paint since there were blackout runs over the body color...

Or, is this just a TA/AAR deal?

I'm putting together a guide for the painter to make sure he paints things correctly. This is a great thread. Just wanted to clarify, the lower area in the pic that Troy posted where the rear bumper mounts...should it be black also? It seems to be based on the photo.

Thanks, Joe

Hi Joe, Yes, the rear finish panel is textured black paint. Good luck with your project.

If you are going to go through all this trouble don't forget to use the 4 nut/stud per side combination to mount the fenders and not the standard bolts.

I thought about using them but had decided against it mainly because the car is not a real T/A . I guess Bill Alphin has them though if I change my mind.

Just because it came up....

Some cars have three studs per side.

The low mile T/A had three on one side & four on the other.

I never knew about the studs and nuts, so I just checked them out on Barry's DVD. Was this a T/A only thing?

Also, is there a compilation similar to Barry's disc for AAR's? I'm about to put mine up on an overturning fixture, so I want to start planning.

T/As & AARs only for the studs during the 1970 model year.

No AAR disc that I am aware of. I would like to make a simliar disc someday if a low mile original car ever surfaces.

Hey, I have a black T/A in storage and have not looked at it in some time (finances being what they are) but I am curious, since my car was originally black, did it still receive all of the same blackout treatments? My car has had one repaint in the 70's but they just masked off the stripes and did a quicky.

Sometimes they did, sometimes not.

I actually looked at that when you had it at Don's one day, but it was so long ago now I do not remember.

It seems like it did.
