Here are pics that I took in back in 92 to document a T/A that I was painting for a buddy.
The car came to me with the outside already stripped, but I took pics to document the blackout and the undercoating in the front wheel wells.
It was a rust free car, but had a few other issues.

I copied large and smaller (640x480) one to photobucket.

I'm not sure where the car ended up after my buddy sold it.
I know it won best paint at the Nats in the mid to late 90's, that made me feel good.

Yeah...Right... Barry had alot of them up but Chrysler made him remove them...

I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for Chrysler to make them available. Better to try to find someone who saved copies off Barry's website before he had to take them down.

how come this picture looks like its satin black on the cowl. not flat at all and not organisol...

The flash did a number on it....made it seem glossier that it really is. I mixed it to 45% flat if I remember correctly.

To be honest with you, my jury is still out on if that blackout paint was textured or not. Here is a few reasons why. On my car ( April 06 1970 T/A) it was not but people keep telling me that it should be.

True Organasal (sp?) plaint was sprayed first and then the body color went over it. If you look on the pictures above, you can see this.

The blackout went up the A pillars about 10" and was well under the windshield channel. Look at the pictures below......

.....I did not know why they put the black up the "A" pillar until I put the car together, the reason is so you do not see body color when you look through the windshield.

....anyway, all that paint was not textured. It was nothing but your standard black out paint.

Here is another picture of the cowl. The funny thing about this picture is you can see the color of the car that was painted BEFORE my car!! (See the orange paint coming through) The cowl area is where they cleaned the guns out from one car to the next.

They sprayed the black first, then masked it off and sprayed the body color.




My car (AAR clone) is in the paint shop now getting ready for a repaint. I would like to know exactly what is meant by this...

Does the cowl get sprayed... then body color...then radiator support and pinch welds? That doesn't make a lot of sense. Maybe I have it screwed up. Why would they black out at two different times when it could be done at once (after body color)?

I am planning to skip the pinch weld and rad. support blackout since the body color will be black, but I am assuming that the cowl blackout was still applied(?). I am also assuming that Cuda's got the cowl blackout 10" up the A pillars... should I NOT be assuming?

BTW, good info on this thread. I didn't know about the clearing of the previous color on the cowl and the a-pillar either.

The thought occured to me that I should get them to spray B5 on the cowl before they painted it black.... as a tribute to the original color of the car... the car it used to be... then I realized that I am a neurotic car romantic and I squashed the idea...

Yes. The majority of these cars came with the 2-speed wiper motor.

to add to the cowl info above, my cowl had flat black UNtextured paint on it when i got it. so Im going with just regular old flat black there.

I dont remember if the inner fender ares (by the bolts) was textured or not but I think it was.
