I always liked this guy and I'm glad he's still doing what he loves. Nice little 4 minute video. http://bangshift.com/bangshiftapex/ever-...s-still-racing/

When I was 21 in 1976, and was in tech school at Sheppard AFB in Wichita Falls Tx. I bought my Kawasaki Z1 900 from Eddie. I still have the bike and some of the paper work with his signature on it. He signed everything to make sure it was right. That freaking cool! I forget...was he the first in the 4's or the first 300mph? It was the 300 right?

I met him briefly 20 odd years ago qualifying at Firebird. None of that Superstar BS with him and given his resume you could forgive him if he did.
Just a real cool laid back genuinely nice guy.
How you can be that and crazy enough to pilot a Top Fuel drag boat beats me.

I met one of his old crew members down in Fla this past spring. Said he was on his team for 4 world championships. Do you remember what his name was? Eddie only won one NHRA Championship ('93) although he had several Dragboat championships. Fuzzy and Jana Carter made the transition from water to asphalt with Eddie and Ercie, can't remember any of the other boat crewmembers moving over with them.

I remember a finish line interview with Eddie years ago when he jumped out of the car after a good run, looked at the camera smiling and said "If more people knew what that felt like, they'd mortgage their houses and go do it." I miss the days when people like Eddie and Ercie with Fuzzy Carter and his wife, could go out and barnstorm, and win races and championships. Seems like it was better times than the ultra serious, corporate professional racing of today.

If the results don't match the theory, change the theory.

I remember watching Eddie run the Nuclear Banana. ![boogie boogie](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/custom/boogie.gif) He looks like my machinist, Lee Bandrow, from Lab Machine in Lindenhurst. That's funny ![tonguue tonguue](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/custom/tonguue.gif) I was thinking the same, Eddie flew on the ground only,Lee got into planes!
HEMI-ITIS has no cure. My condition is fully BLOWN!!

Driving a nitro drag boat and surviving is a major accomplishment. An open cockpit boat at that!! Survived the crash at Firebird in '84, going through traps at 217, earlier when running an A/Fuel boat, I think at St. Louis, he went over the deck and he tripped the clocks at 166, that's he, not the boat, just him skipping across the finish line, tripping the clocks with his body. Pretty sure that would have ended anybodys' boat racing career, but he went blown shortly after that, finally setting speed record at 229, a record that stood for most of ten years. The man was awesome to watch. A good read from NHRA Top 50. http://www.nhra.net/50th/top50/E_Hill14.html
