Should probably make sure he doesn't have something cheesy like the MP bolt in units, before you make such a declarative statement.

Even thin wall bolt in units are better than nothing and will reduce a considerable amount of flex. Are they ideal, no. Are they helpful, absolutely.

It is a pretty beefy unit but it is just bolted in place. The only pics I have are pretty crappy and are from the day I bought the car...no commentary on the porcupine someone ran over!

They tried...

Did you check your hitch and coupler?

Nutso Suave -- you never mentioned what your car body is, as well as your current engine, etc, and your desired purpose/activities in the long run.... competition, daily driver,... ??

If upfront cost is a matter, you could simply add a few components now, and add some later...

They used heavy gauge sheet metal...other than that it was pretty abysmal. And indeed I did check the hitch!

It is a 1969 Roadrunner with a 440. When I bought it the body looked decent, but when i decided to repaint it (because the paint had a lot of scratches) I opened a can of worms. I was going to build a Day 2 muscle car, but since i have spent a lot of time and money getting the body and paint finished (and it isnt THAT nice) I'd like to upgrade some of the performance aspects other than the go, which it does pretty well. The whoa! needs some help. I am learning as I go. I will drive the car for fun and to shows, maybe take it on some road trips. It won't be a daily driver, i have my 2000 BMW 540i for that.

WHat does the car have on it for front brakes now? If it is on the street 99% of the time I would just do the 11.75" factory brake swap on the front and leave the drums on the back. With good pads that set up works as good as a lot of the aftermarket stuff and it is a no hassle bolt on.

It has factory drums up front right now. The disk brake upgrade seems like a cost effective upgrade, but I would like to put larger tires up front as well...the ones I have now are on 14 x 6 wheels. They are just some slot mags I had and the narrow front tires don't offer much contact patch. I'm not sure the largest (or widest) tire I can fit in the front.

I think a disk brake upgrade might be a good place to start. laugh

I have a TVS kit on my Challenger. I bought one when they first came out. I think I only paid $1700 for it not sure I would spend almost $3k for one now. . It definitely makes the car handle nicer.
I would first spend money on brakes. a nice steering box, Torsion Bars and shocks...maybe some sway bars.

You can't go wrong with either Firm Feel or Hotchkis. Whatever Hotchkis doesn't directly sell you can get from Firm Feel.

Firm Feel was building handling mopars before it was "cool." Dick will set you up with a stock type suspension that will impress a lot of folks. Hotchkis is a step beyond that. I have the Hotchkis TVS on my Challenger and I will never look back. I have Firm Feel 1.18 torsion bars, Stage 3 steering box and QA1 single adjustable front shocks (RCD Bilsteins in the back) and it handles amazing and rides nicely. My last thing is to go to the Hotchkis Fox Adjustable shocks all around, just haven't saved up for that last step.

I honestly hadn't thought about replacing the torsion bars, but it makes sense that replacing some of the original, fatigued components with new ones is a good place to start. I like the idea of swapping to bolt on disk brakes as well. I'm not planning on racing the car but I live in an area with a lot of beautiful windy roads. I bought my BMW because of the amazing handling and V8 power....I'm convinced it is almost as fast as my Roadrunner. I've taken a liking to zooming around and having the Roadrunner be able to weave through the hills would be awesome.

Thanks for the info and opinions. thumbs

I had the whole TVS on my Dart and it was a slot car. I had KYB shocks and that was the next change I was going to make, to Bilstiens for some ride stif/softness adjustability. Unfortunately, I had to sell the Gart to make room for my GTX, which has an Alterktion/4link set up. That is pretty awesome as well but much more costly and invasive from an install perspective.
