Just saw one this past week for 25K (darn cheap for a woodie). Needed some major wood work, but was mostly there. Can't remember where..
Just looked at ebag, and there are a number at that price range, all major projects.

This guy is supposed to be very good for the wood parts, although I bet there are small, quiet shops tucked away for the high end stuff.

I admire them, but revarnishing one every year is beyond my level of motivation.

To answer your question-----NO, not yet. Do they make custom kits for rods to mke them woodies? If so, I am on my way to looking for a wagon of some sort.

I have a shop and desire, so wood working could be next. Are the entire doors woods, or wood covered on some of these cars. I missed out a few years back on two packards. One woodie and one 4 door parts car. 2K. I passed and I hate myself. It was right around the corner then.

Most of that last set is phantom. They never made 2 door wagons or Willys woodies.
Building a woodie requires great knowledge of woodworking. The wood isn't cheap either. You can't just grab pine 2X4s from Home Depot and start. It can be done though.

Woodies are just that, wood. Inside and out, the entire framework of the body is wood. Particularly in the 20s and 30s. Remember, even steel body cars back then had wooden framework in the bodies.

It wasn't until later "woodies" that combined steel and wood, ala the Chrysler Town and Country from the 40s.

I remember an episode of American Hotrod that dealt with building (rebuilding) a woody. They called in some woodie "experts" to do the wood work. Watching those guys work, it was unreal the amount of work that a woodie entailed. LOTS of specialized knowledge... It certainly wasn't something for Duane or any of his gomers to handle!

Dave, this woody was built by using a metal tubbing frame work to build the body shape and attaching the wood to it.
If I were to build a woody that is the way I "WOOD" do it.
and most are built with mahogany and maple. Ron...

Ya, I think they are way out of my expertise range. i am just learning how to work with metal, paint and all that stuff to start buying wood working tools, ect and change gears.

I would have to find one thats in decent enough shape to at least use the wood as a pattern and hire out the wood work. I better stick with metal.

I'm slowly trying to take a 30 Fargo wagon and make a Woodie out of it. The original truck had a wooden base, skined with steel so I have the original wooden patterns to go from. I can't imagine trying to start from scratch. I have mocked it up in pine to get a feel of what the constuction will entail and try and get the proportions right. I have just started working on the ash that will be used for the finished product. The doors are really really hard to do.

Here are some great information pictures of various woodies. Click on each picture for more detailed shots of the car. Great site for looking at different details of the car. There is another page that has more woodies. The 34 Ford in the other page is worth checking out.

Here is a set on restoring a 4X4 that gives a good shot of the super structure and the door construction. They start at the bottom of the page.

I took a bunch of closeup pics of a Chrysler or Plymouth woody at the Nashville show 2 years ago. Anyone want them I will email them. They are too big to post here and I don't know how to resize them.

I like 'em, but they've always been kind of "cost prohibitive".

I have a '30-'31 Ford Model A Cowl behind the house that I've thought about building as a woodie, but I always have too many sticks in the fire as it is.

(bad pun! )

Those Power Wagons are awesome! If I ever find one it's coming home with me if I have the coin.

Thanks for the link!
