Andy- Will the Blaster SS coil bracket fit on a 440 with the standard M1 single plane manifold? The cast-in coil bracket boss is kinda big on those intakes. In comparison, the Victor intake provides a lot more room in that area.

Should fit with the M1 single plane. I tested that bracket with a bunch of single plane intakes and it worked with all of them. I think it even works with the Performer RPM but it doesn't work with other dual planes.

Replaced my Blaster II with a HVC II and saw an immediate improvement in response.

Thanks for the reply guys. The FD 478-style coil has my interest. I also recall people running the Dodge Magnum V8-era coils on their cars back in the mid 90's.

In the meantime, I think I might put a Blaster 2 back on until I figure out what I ultimately want. work

The traditional MSD Blaster round tower coil internally uses an oil-bath to help kool its windings ..
When mounted horizontally the oil lays differently and is less efficient for cooling. How well/long it runs OK really depends upon how hot does it get.. This is determined by the value of the ballast resisitor, the ECU used and physical location.....

Just my $0.02... wink

I run a blaster 2 also. It is mounted vertically in roughly the location Andy shows... I used a AP store bracket for a '57 Chevy or something like that and fabbed a support for the 2'nd hole on the bracket that attaches to a valley pan rail bolt. Not near as neat but works.

I like to keep ignition and coil matched as recommended by the manufacturer. Mounted horizontally, I would probably use the epoxy filled Blaster as mentioned by several folks. I guess it is same diameter as stock and would fit a stock bracket.

The Standard FD478 coil is a replacement coil for ford TFI ignitions, like under the hood of that '89 Taurus. Nothing special, but they do work. The Accel coil that replaces that one is just $10 more and it has a lower primary winding resistance so maybe that means something. That ford TFI style wiring clip has become the standard. I like the coil because it's small you can mount it any direction and it works with about any ignition.
