Mr P glad you are doing better. What type of mill do you have? Jack
Just a power feed table Allied(same as a Bridgeport) none of the fancy CNC stuff

This is actually a very good suggestion. As a former shop supervisor, I would always tell the guys to make sure that someone else knew if they were going to be in the shop alone. That way someone could check up on them after a while.
Some crazy things happened in the 5 years I was there, once a guy was turning a steel shaft and left too much hanging out the back unsupported, it started to wobble and then broke off and went straight up into the roof and stuck there! Had to get a roofer to fix the hole.
Another time a guy put a 2000 rpm max grinding wheel on a 10,000 rpm die grinder, again, it whizzed along for awhile, then flew off and broke the window on our vertical cnc machine.
There were no injuries I can remember in my time there, just close calls. If someone were hurt, though, I wanted someone else to be around to call an ambulance.

What kind of converter are you using? Many people don't realize that converters don't make sense any more in today's day and age. You should be using VFDs (variable speed drive). The benefit is single phase in, 3 phase out, variable speed and if you get the right one dynamic braking - - sure is nice to have the mill stop spinning in 1 revolution without mechanical assistance. They can be had cheap on ebay. I have 4 vfds in my new shop.
I'm using the electronic type.... I couldnt see running a big motor to run my small motor. My old electronic one was too small to handle the HP but this one will handle a motor twice the size of mine... this one also starts much faster than the old converter
