Carve the goo and most of the circuitboard out of the Orange box and install a GM HEI module in it.
No one will know the difference.

I've converted my daily '73 Dart to a DynoMod HEI-module and a MSD SS Blaster E-coil. Better spark than with the stock ignition, and no more mix and match ballast resistors with the coils.

I've always considered the module just an on/off switch & as long as it dont pull (retard) the timing then they should be about the same but in real life it ain't like that. I think the HEI's are a killer setup, just be sure to mount it on a flat piece of aluminum & use Radio Shack heat sink paste between the two. & I like the no ballast & use an E coil

will show that the Davis Unified Distributor's high performance module (Dyna Mod) is the one pictured and it is sold by many different auto parts houses.

This company has really come to life.

An interesting picture on the page linked is what looks like a Mopar ignition box. It's mislabeled as a Ford Duraspark but the two are nowhere near the same.

Okay. Sorry for the delay in responding.. According to what "Nacho" said in his post, the device is a Motorola MJ10005. This is a 25A, 400V Darlington Transistor. The current is a little out of our range, but I'm going to take a look today to see what we can offer as a drop-in equivalent.

There's a distributor, Newark Electronics that does have these in stock and they're about $10.00 each. Here's the link..

I will respond in the next day or so and let everyone know if I have an equivalent. If I have a close equivalent that's not exact, I'm not going to offer as I don't know the circuit and could potentially create more problems for you.

Okay.. After reviewing the specs, The closest equivalent I can offer is our MJ10012. It's is somewhat lower current, but does meet the 400V.

Note-400V is very high for this type of transistor and this particular device (MJ10005) was designed into this circuit because of the high voltage which gets stepped up by the coil to 10KV+. This device also has fast rise and fall time which makes it very suitable for this application.

If you would like, send me your email address and I can send data sheets for both parts for comparison. The device we have as I mentioned has the high voltage, but the current is a little low. This will not damage the unit, but the unit may not function correctly, or could solve the problem.

If anyone wants to play around with a sample, send me you address, etc. and I will be happy to send you one at no charge.

If you want the actual replacement, I would suggest Newark Electronics from the link I provided in my last post
