When I set my lash a few weeks ago it was my first time. It really helped me to use a set of GO-NO-GO Feeler Gauges. Each feeler gauge steps up .002 at the tip, so you know for sure that if you can pull the tip through you didnt set the lash tight enough.

I use the EOIC method and I have a starter button on my firewall, once I have the valve covers off it literally only takes me a couple minutes to check all 16 rockers.

As soon as the exhaust rocker starts to move down, check the intake rocker lash.
Then bump the starter button so the intake rocker goes all the way down and as soon as it starts to move back up(close), check the exhaust rocker.

Also, as your bumping the starter button, you can try to push the feeler gauge in there, which gives you a feel for the rocker as far as how much it travels while having lash and it helps you to know when to check and set it.
It's a very easy method.
