That will definitely be a point of turbulent air. I would have sealed that up well before worrying about a spoiler. But that's just my 2cents...the spoiler looks like good handy-work though!

we get dinged for Lexan/plastic $X per cubic inches/feet. We are close to the $500 limit now. Once we see how much room we have after our mods are added up. We should have room for the rear hatch.

Hmm, I would try to get something on there.

May be work some Tuft testing to see how bad you want it, it'll at least give you some sort of feedback on what's going on back there.

Wrap a piece of sheet metal around it and fire up the mig.

Rearward vision is highly overrated.

We get hit for sheet metal too. It's funny that you say rearward vision is over rated, my team mate yelled at me on the radio to stop looking in the rear view mirror and worry about what was in front of me.

When you get the size figured out, layup some carbon fiber, it will be way less weight and mucho stiffer. Tim

Are you required to have a windshield?

Some tin work inside the rear window area will help turn it into an extension of the spoiler deck.

you could make it tunable with turn down flaps, or just saw-zall away.

it looks like you have a piano hinge at the bottom, you could use turn buckles on the same side to adjust the height/angle rather than have fixed mounts.

also what kind of speeds are we talking about?

We have to run something up front. Some run Lexan but the stock window is free.
We used a piano hinge so we can adjust it some. However we are somewhat limited. For faster tracks we'll use a shorter piece of plastic.
Carbon fiber...not even sure what they would charge for that. Plywood is $3 sq foot and the Lexan is $5 a sq foot. I talked things over with the team and the car w/ spoiler and splitter is going to be around $465. That gives us some wiggle room for the rear window next race. If need be we can use the stock PS cooler and save $20 more.

Fab up a set of rear window louvers. It might help straighten out some of the air flow through the car and onto your spoiler.

Throw the judges for a loop and use papier mache.

funny you should say that. I said I'll get a set of louvers and we should be good. They do not count against the car. The team said they are ugly I said so is the entire car.

we get dinged for Lexan/plastic $X per cubic inches/feet. We are close to the $500 limit now. Once we see how much room we have after our mods are added up. We should have room for the rear hatch. [/quote]

If this is for ChumpCar, check the rulebook for 2015 updates - Lexan rear windows (including hatch) are now free so long as they conform to the OE size, shape, and location. See Rule 9.1.6.3 and Rule 9.1.7.1 here
