You really opened a can of worms on this one. I did extensive testing with the 440 and the Edelbrock 750 (1411) and tuned it to work pretty well but not perfect. Google "edelbrock 750 stumble 440" and you will find an epidemic of problems.

I was able to get my 1411 to work with alot of tuning, an A/F gauge and jets, springs and pump changes.

I ended up installing a 1413 (800) and am very happy with it. Many others have abandoned Edelbrock and moved to the Demon or Holley and are also happy.

I think you are fine with Edelbrock but DON't try the 1411.

Or 1407

I got flamed by a few on your thread if I remember , and all you did was reassure what I already knew - Was a great thread from what I remember , along with the other 100 threads on the same subject - 1411/1407 JUNK

Anyways

With the availability now of the 800 series carbs from Edelbrock , bigger question would bee , why would anyone even waste their time time time more time or money running the 1411/1407 series ??? Edelbrock 800 Series Are 1,000 Times Better

And I Have Nothing Against Holley

Did the Edelbrock AVS on my B-van, straight out of the box and adjusted the idle/mixture.
No doubt I could tweak it and probably gain back the 1-2 mpg I lost going from the craptastic BBD that was on there but for the weekend toy/occasional driver that sits most of the time I am more than satisfied with it;

I put on two 500 CFM Edelbrock carbs on my wifes 72 Charger 18 years agao because she wanted a dual quad set up. Once I got them calibrated I never had to touch them except for a couple years ago I put new carb kits in them because of the gas we have to run today. Very happy with them.

I've run both with good results. My race car runs Eddy 1407 (supposed junk) 750's. I removed the chokes, went up one step with jets and installed the proper step up springs. Car has been 9.12@147.7, 3340lbs. I also saw a Hemi Road Runner last fall run 8.60 with 2 1407's as well. Both cars are on motor only.

A couple of fixes midpage here for Eddy '750' clones.

Extend boosters and copy ma mopar's calibration
not for the timid novice, but not that hard for anyone whose done this type of work.

Either can and will work good. If you ask this question 100 times you may get 50 different answers. And the answer is both can work fine. Some just prefer one over the other from things they have had happen on carbs they use. I have had good luck with both and if you know how carbs work and understand them you can tune either to work for you. I myself like to use Holley's on most of my cars but most of mine are my hotrod muscle cars and I like working and using the Holley. But I have worked with and used the Eddy and Carter carbs and had them work very good. Just ask all of the guys running stock eliminator with Max Wedge and street Hemi's how they like the Eddy and Carter carbs.

Here is my advice which is first a question. And that is how good are you with carbs ? No offense meant but I am guessing you dont know carbs to good or you would not be on here asking this question ? So my advice is find someone you know in your area who is very good with carbs and ask them which they prefer and ask them if they will work with you on this to install and tune which carb you use unless you can do it yourself. Then you will have the advice of someone you trust who we hope knows what they are doing and they will get which ever carb they use on your car running great. Because as I said either one can work fine for you as long as a good carb person sets the carb up right for your combo. Good luck , Ron

it's nice to be able to tinker with something without spilling gas everywhere or having to take the carbs off.

I use and have luck with both. I have a few favorites like the 800 AVS and the 3310 Holley, they are both pretty easy to figure out and very streetable.
