If you CAN put it into gear with it running and not pushing clutch pedal your problem is simple. You are probably just moving the lever and not shifting the trans for one of several reasons. Several things happen commonly to these. One of them is the shift cable bushings wear out to the point they disappear. Google "booger srt4 shifter bushings" for better ones cheap and more info. Easy to diagnose have someone shift it while you watch what the cables and lever on trans do under hood they are on the drivers side ish on top of trans might have to remove airbox and or pipe maybe battery tray i cannot recall right now. Might be the bushings in car on the shifter itself as well. If all that looks good and its moving the lever fully then another thing that happens is the selector itself breaks. So the lever moves but nothing is happening in trans. This too is common easy to see and can be done without removing trans i am almost sure it just goes in from top. If you broke a fork it would only affect certain gears. If you broke an input shaft or anything in the trans you would know it would be aweful noisy. Think about it if you broke the input shaft the clutch etc would be making a ton of noise like the car was coming apart depending where it broke. I bet it is one of the two things i listed both cheap enough and easy to fix.

I concour...but I thought he did that already..I would peak under the hood and see the actual levers move or even better, move them by hand into the gears..input shafts are hi tempered steel I thought, to break that alone it sure would make a loud noise..

If you can put it in any gear running without pushing the clutch then it needs a clutch if the shifter is moving and working which is simple to check. Seen it before as it tore the lining off the clutch disc. If it was an axle or broken C/V joint it would grind going in gear and you would feel some resistance because the input shaft would be turning in the trans. Its either the clutch (which I think it is) or the input shaft is broken. I did a few clutches with the exact same problem over the years. Ron

We took the shifter cables right off at the tranny and put it in gear by hand. I bought the car with this issue and the person I bought it from said there was no loud noises or signs of any thing going right before it happened while he was driving it . It's hard to say for sure, he could be just saying that. He thought it was a shifter cable but I'm pretty sure he was just saying that to sell it easier.

I put the car on the lift and put it in first gear and the tires started spinning slowly. I could grab the tire and stop it easily
So then it's going into gear. If you can stop a moving tire, the clutch must be incredibly weak. As in friction material totally gone.
