the (Jan./72) 1970-71 Parts Catalog shows (3 sets of 70-71 fenders):
70 J, except w/F60x15 tire 3419 878/879 - '70 Parts Catalog "except 6.00 x 15 tires" 70 & 71 J, w/F60x15 tire 3579 380/381 - '70 Parts Catalog "w/6.00 x 15 tires" J, Trans Am, w/F60x14 tire 3579 624/625
can anyone explain the differences between each set of part numbers, why 3 sets?
What does it show in the '70 ONLY parts catalog?

I believe if my memory has not failed me this day. That there was a thread discussing all the different Challenger fender for 1970 and 1971. It was a while back this thread ran, things like Hood Pin Hole location or cut outs on the front of the fenders, hemi rolled lips done by both sources and a bunch of other things. I believe YYZ posted a lot on that thread. I do not believe it got into listing part numbers as in this thread.

From my parts book (also 1970-71 Jan.'72 edition)
No mention of 6.00 tires, mine indicates 60 series.
No mention of the exception either?
Compare what your book shows to this image, it sounds like something is off somewhere?

I added the # & text info posted by twodoorpost after the RED '70 Parts Catalog text - just to show the numbers are the same, not yet superseded. I believe the "removed 2.0" is referring to body shop repair estimates. & "by the book" there are NO '71 fenders listed except the F60x15 tire variety.

I have always been told that R/T fenders were different than standard challenger fenders. Any truth to this?

I wonder if one set of fender numbers is for 70 Challenger fenders with the stamped holes for RT nameplate and the Challenger script. Didn't 70 Challengers with the rear painted stripe have RT pinned badges on the fenders and the Challenger pinned script above that. There would be 5 stamped holes in each fender.

I purchased a number of NOS replacement fenders from 1979 to 1983 or so before they went NS1. They were all the same. Many of those other numbers were just superseded by the standard number. The NOS replacements were produced in the mid-seventies because the front inner piece had the cutout for the 72-74 grille even though the fender was clearly a 70-71 (based on the sidelamp). They were red/brown primer in color with the part number sometimes on them. Occasionally a black primer one would show up.

Years ago when my T/A was hit in the passenger side fender, my body shop located & bought a NOS Fender & bought it from Ron Slobe.
No antenna hole & it was pre-puched for an engine emblem & R/T emblem but not the Pentastar which we thought was strange.
I wish I would have taken photos back then of the part number & the box, but the car was just a daily driver back then.

The one I mentioned was black & did not have the '71 cutout, it was an early one.
I know of NO combination that would have a "R/T" emblem and an engine callout on the same fender. It has been claimed that some "NOS" parts are actually assembly plant rejects - could this be the case with some of these?
