Did you try squirting some WD-40 in the lock and gently wiggling it with the key afterward??????
Have not tried this yet, but thanks for suggesting it.

The key should open the door and be used in the ignition, that would be a Pentastar style key. The key that opens the trunk is a round style key. Did you ever use the key that doesn't work in the lock before?
Both of my keys are the Pentastar type but the one used to open my trunk. I believe the previous owner had the lock rekeyed. I have tried both keys I have, the one that is thin and wore thin goes in the whole way and seems to fit good but won't turn. The second key I have won't even go in the whole way.

Try this, put the key in the lock, now rapidly pull & push the key as fast as you can. You only have to move it back & forth about 1/2". As you're doing this turn the key to see if it will open. Turn while you're doing the sliding in & out. I've opened some locks with a non matching key this way, worth a shot.
I love the smell of Deer guts in the morning, it smells like... VICTORY!

Before you butcher anything up or ruin your paint just drive it down to a locksmith and have him open it.
DO NOT use WD40 on the lock, there is a reason real lock lube isn't a liquid. If you feel the need to try something anyway go to Home Depot and buy lock lube, it's usually by the towing accessories.
They say there are no such thing as a stupid question. They say there is always the exception that proves the rule. Don't be the exception.
