I always thought an aluminum Dana center based on the Mag ones would be a cool piece. Problem is by the time you brace the axle tubes to take the stress off the center you will weigh the same as an iron center Dana. Still better off with a 9". You can get 9.5" and 10" ring gears for them now. Plus its so much easier setting a gear up on the bench!

I'd like to see their math on the expected weight savings. The bare OEM iron Dana 60 housing without any axle tubes (from a late 60's 3/4 ton Dodge truck) that I started with for my car only weighed about 50-60 pounds as I recall. So you're DEFINITELY not going to save 70-80 pounds just by changing the housing.

i get the innovative part, but why go through all the trouble if it can't handle lots of HP? when promax came out with there 6pack carbs, i called them and asked how much better theres ran. they said they didn't know and had no stats.

The companies rep told me back when that they were doing a few editorials on it and would include more info, but lets see if it includes real abuse and use.
I was going to have Dr. Diff set it up anyway just to make sure the ring and pinion were meshing correctly.
I had some additional ideas mentioned in the "Real world weight loss program and its cost" thread to lighten the differential even more if someone is setting it up from scratch.

I like it, except one detail, I'm uneasy about the axle tube retention solution, not sure how robust and what power limits those bolts will handle. It says 9 3/8", is that per tube? I couldn't make out in pics.

Even a Grade 5 3/8" bolt will hold around 9000 lbs. in single shear...that would be the least of my worries.
