so then where is the dividing line date of early vs late

Good question and points. Early and Late are just subjective terms. When the one post said "very early", I guessing first month of production. But to others that might mean first couple of weeks?? People need to list a date or week or month of production so we all know what they are talking about.

I'm thinking the best bet would be to investigate the part (valance). Like stamping codes and the order and colors of the layers of paint. To see if it possible to determine the valance originally came with the car in question. And the car I assume has a SPD associated with it.

Is this a dual exhaust cutout valence only thing. Would non cutout valences have this extra bracket??

My Challenger vert SPD is A19 (October 19th 1969) it does not have the brackets or a threaded insert, the valance does have the unused hole, just like every other Challenger I've worked on.

The build date on my car is 12/19/69 so I guess this is an early car. The valence has a hole like the ones in Ron's picture. I can't see from the picture but I assume they bolt to the rear cross member. Ron, what was the build date of your car? Thanks, Gerry.

10-11-69 and built in LA.

Now we are getting somewhere. We can now assume that cars built up to 10/11/69 would have them. I wonder if there would be much of a difference with build plants. I looked at my crossmember and and noticed that there is a tab where it looks like a hole would exist for the bracket but it is not drilled out. We can now assume that production of this bracket stopped somewhere between 10/11/69 and 12/19/69 since it looks like my car did not have the bracket. I had heard that this bracket was used for additional support but then a decision was made that it was no longer necessary and was no longer used. Thanks for everyones input. Gerry.

Might be a big factor there too...My current Challenger was built at Hamtrack (obviously all vert challengers were)

My understanding after speaking with Steve Been a couple of years ago at Carlisle is that they were found on Very early produced Challenegrs only.

They are also found on early Cudas as well(different, but similar bracket). These brackets are shown in the service manuals for both cars. My October Hamtramck built Challenger and Cuda, both have the nut in the cross-frame for the brackets, but both cars did not have them. My March (70) LA built Cuda, does not have the nuts in the cross-frame. I have a pair of both types of brackets if anyone needs to see them.

There was a yellow Barn Find 70 Challenger RT for sale at Vegas 2 years ago, that had the brackets on it. This is the only car I've seen to have them. I don't recall the build date or the factory it was built at , however.

My T/A had them and that is a non-cutout valance.
