Aluminum caps were used on the T/As.

Were the trim rings standard on T/A's?

Yes they were. There is some debate as to whether the rings were the polished or brushed finish. According to Galen's white books T/A's and pickups got the aluminum red circle caps and all other '70's got stainless steel. I talked to a guy in the survivor tent at the Nats this year who said he was the original owner of the FC7 T/A displayed there, and that his stainless steel red circle caps were what were on the car when he bought it new. So maybe the aluminum versus stainless cap issue is debatable too?

Nice car Chris!! It's only a color that an owner can love!! All of the research that I have done have shown that the T/As have the Aluminum center caps....Was I the original owner of my car???.....No. Was I there, back in the time when these cars were new??...No, but everything that I have found have shown that the aluminum one are more correct that the stainless steel ones. As for the trim rings....that is a fun one. I have seen original photos of cars sitting on show rooms when they were new, original photos that were taken back in the day, and I have a date coded trim ring off of my 32K mile car. With all of the info that I have gathered I have come to the conclusion that (drum roll please!!) Either of them are correct!! The rings that were on my car when dilivered they were brushed.

i wouldnt doubt the trim rings for AARs or TAs depended on whichever box they opened at the time.
My AAR has polished rings because thats what I put on them (there were none when I got it). I had a W21 code on the BS

The documentation and research certainly seems to point to polished rings and aluminum cars for steel wheel T/A's Ken, and I hope that is correct! I do have a dog in this fight as my T/A is a steel wheel car and I have polished rings and a set of nice aluminum dog dish caps stashed away for it. Here is a picture of a wheel on that Nats survivor car the owner claims where on it when he bought the car new in '70.
Are you sure those are stainless caps? A friend had a survivor FC7 T/A and the caps were so nice that they looked like stainless but were actually aluminum. You had to plink them with your finger to tell they were aluminum.
