So I got a certified letter today from Right Stuff Detailing stating,

"TRSD has received one report stating that one DBSP03 Mopar Wheel Spindle has failed in the field. Failure did not result in a crash, any vehicle damage or injury

We have no specific indication that your particular part(s) are faulty... so we are conducting a voluntary recall... as a cautionary measure.

TRSD has identified and is obtaining replacement wheel spindles that will be providing to customers free of charge. These Wheel Spindles are manufactured with an improved process, which is an upgrade. We trust that you will find them a suitable replacement."

I ordered these through Dr. Diff. Apparently it applies to all spindles ordered between Jan 21, 2014 and Sep 23, 2014.

This really screwed up my afternoon as I was planning on getting started with my front disc brake installation today and am now delayed again (as if my schedule wasn't busy enough). I called them and the phones are off due to the weekend. I don't know if I should just screw it and throw them on or send them back. They say we get new spindles for free, but they don't mention anything about paying for shipping.

I wouldn't even consider putting them on any car of mine if I got that notice. It's not like you already installed them. Call them Monday and ask if they cover shipping. If they want to charge you, explain that it's not fair for you to have to pay for shipping. If they won't pay for shipping, give them a credit card to pay for the shipping, then call your credit card company and dispute the charge.

That's what I was thinking along the lines of... I'm also curious to what the failure was and how they've improved their manufacturing process to account for the failure.

Nice to see them not running from the issue and being up front with it! That's pretty unusual these days. Full marks for that!

They are definitely taking the right steps to fix the problem. Sucks having to deal with China I bet.

Are A-bodies non-existent in California junkyards now? I think you'd probably sleep a lot better at night knowing you had a "seasoned" set of knuckles in light of this.

I have a set of 73+ A body drum spindles but they don't work with my brake setup as I found out when I tried to install my brakes. I believe they work with some of the other kits though. And the Local Pick-a-Parts rarely have A-bodies and if they do, they're picked dry within days. You'd have to purchase a parts car.

I saw A-body spindle for well under $150. And complete disk swaps for well under $250 at Fall Fling today.

This issue came up so quickly RSD did not have time to replenish their supply.

I have a batch coming from another source. I can exchange any suspect RSD spindle I sold directly or drop-shipped.

As far as I know, RSD will E-mail you call-tag. Once I see the knuckles have been picked-up, I can ship a pair of replacements from my location.

Unfortunately, the spindles will probably arrive after I leave for SEMA, so I won't be able to ship any until I return in a couple weeks.

One spindle broke between the bearing journals. The break was caused by a manufacturing flaw.

I think this is a fluke, as I have been selling these 1 piece, forged steel knuckles for years.

I don't have a booth at SEMA. I will be looking around and talking to my suppliers.

Must be material selection or heat treat issue? That does sound flukey .I've never seen one break there ever. Bend yes but not break,
and that was under a hard hit circle track racing that destroyed the hub , not street duty.

I received my letter today. They said to send them my spindles and they would send me a new set when they have the stock.

I assume that if I swapped mine out I would need another alignment?

Actually, it's to be expected these days.
Do a little search on recalls. There are more recalls happening today than at any other time in history. Due to fear of litigation every manufacturer out there is keeping a finger on the recall button. This is not just the auto industry. It's running across the the full manufacturing spectrum.

My bet is on a bad batch of steel from China.

Are you saying we can ship them to you? I'm in no rush as long as I can get them back by mid-December.

The suspect spindles must be returned to Right Stuff.

I can ship the replacements from my location.
