chrisf OP master C Joined: Jan 2003 Posts: 5,974 British Columbia	I have a 07 5.9 one ton. It's a pos money eater. Injector issues as well as poor mpg and being in Canada we pay more for diesel than gas Thinking about maybe switching over to a hemi 3/4t Smart move?

You use it mostly local and once in awhile the Hemi will tow an enclosed trailer over the mountains when you need it. If you were enclosed towing over the mountains all the time the Diesel would be the choice. If I didn't own my truck already I would be buying a Henway not a diesel. If your truck is a six speed my kid is looking for one BTW. Sheldon

I often thought about swapping a 12V into a newer body. Mines okay for mileage (not great) empty but it's no heck loaded. The kid is selling his 93, 5 speed dually, I told him it won't be an easy truck to replace as it's got all the right stuff. I think he should paint it and call it good myself, maybe put some softride front springs in it. Sheldon

I've had my '04 since new and have nothing but praise for it! Momma just got a new 'rango RT, and while it's fast, there's nothing like the torque of the big C. Fuel consumption? no comparison! I think it's worth it to bite the bullet and fix the truck, put extra fuel filtration, fix the known trouble spots etc. I had a '92 and while that was a great truck and simple, the '04 is leaps and bounds. I hear the current crop is leaps and bounds past the '04, but you can keep the extra emissions and electronics! I did have the special front leafs in the '92, I thought skyjacker made them. Canada	I have had many diesel trucks, many Cummins Rams and still have 4. my opinion; - 1) I won't be buying any more new diesels after the issues I've had with the 2006 and 2008. - 2) my '03 305/555 NV5600 is the best truck Dodge ever made. Zero pollution control and zero problems. - 3) Nonetheless, no gas engine compares to a diesel when towing heavy. I've had a few cummins a 04.5 5.9 2wd auto 05 5.9 g56 6sp 4X4 05 5.9 2wd auto 06 5.9 2wd auto and never had 1 issue with any of them I now have a 2014 6.7 with the Aisin and I would not give it up for any of my old ones. The only way I would go gas is if I never towed anything with any weight to it. 70 duster full chassis super pro 416 CNC Indybrock heads 727 w/brake best so far 1.212 60 6.219 in 1/8 at 110.88 9.768 at 137.81 1/4

My buddies 14 hemi halfton is doing better fuel mileage on the highway (empty of course) than my 05 Cummins, oh and diesel is currently 10% more expensive than gas at the pump. I remember the first time I drove my Brother's 90 Cummins 5 speed, it got 30MPG Imperial those days are gone (although they do live on in the imaginations of some). Sheldon

The 6.7 truck has had issues with the regen cycle, DPF, and turbo.....just too much garbage. If you are going to buy a new truck every 3 years; go for it....otherwise they are likely going to cost you a bucket of cash long term IMO. Google P2563 code and also the TIPM. My '03 is stock other than an exhaust (which you can replace legally since it never had any pollution control) and a Smarty programmer. Power is about 400/750 and I can get about 21 mpg under perfect conditions. New is always nice; just bought a brand new Mercedes GLK diesel on the weekend....but it's going to get replaced before the warranty is up. Dave I still say the '03 is by far the best of the bunch. first of all the 2013 up now has DEF and because of that it use the egr system very little compared to a 2012 down there fore they have a lot less regens. the main problem with the turbos are soot however as I mentioned because of the DEF and less ERG being used the problems are a lot less also. I also always use the exhaust brake and that helps a lot. The oil change interval is nearly twice what the early 6.7's were (if you go by the minder). Fuel filter cost doubled (two filters now which were needed years ago....same 15k interval pretty much). I've worked on a couple of the new 6.4 2500 4x4's. Noted the average mpg on one was 14.6 and the other 16.2....overall not too bad for a gas truck of this size. Would sure love to know how it pulls.... if we get one in on trade I may have to test that theory with my trailer. I'd honestly consider going this route.
